In a complete reversal of last week's fortunes, CDCC enjoyed a succesful weekend as they claimed three victories, a tie and a draw.
The 1st team claimed an astonishing victory over Teddington Town, who had previously only lost one game all season, to end their five match losing streak. Teddington batted first and despite initial slow scoring, managed to post an imposing 281 for 9 thanks to some swashbuckling blows towards the end of their innings.
Chris Nunn was the pick of the bowlers with 4-66. Cookham's slow but steady progress initially looked likely to see the game fizzle out into a tame draw, but the partnership between
Rory Millar and
Tom Bibby turned the game as the home side chased an improbable win. Millar eventually departed for 41 but this only brought
Clive Lambden to the crease who continued to up the run-rate. With the required rate rising to over ten an over, Bibby teed off and reached an outstanding century, his first of the season. Despite losing him just before the end, the Dean pulled off the victory in the last over and the celebrations went long into the night....The match was also notable for the attire of Umpire
Carlos Thomas.
The 2nds drew in a tight encounter away to Reading 4s, Cookham batted first and racked up 267-8 with
Patrick Castleden striking another century and
Guy Glover hitting a quick-fire 50 at number 7. Wickets were initially hard to come by for
Richard Bibby's side but wickets began to fall rapidly with
Andrew Pett and
Isaac Richardson the pick of the bowlers. Reading eventually finished on 264-8.
The 3rd team completed a league double over Marlow 3s with a comfortable win. Cookham batted first and racked up 302-9 with
Mike Cutting and
Roger Evans both posting half centuries. Useful contributions throughout the team ultimately saw them post their signifcant score. Wickets fell quickly at the top of the order and only Hassan and Harvey provided any serious resistance as Marlow ended up 210 all out. Evans was the main wicket-taker as he picked up four victims.
The Sunday 1s played in a thrilling tie against Stokenchurch. Ten-man Cookham posted 124 with
Oliver Freeman top-scoring with 31. In response Stokenchurch set off quickly but lost their wickets just as rapidly as
Aaron O'Donoghue bowled a hostile spell against his former club to claim 6 wickets.
The Sunday 2s claimed a comfortable 47 run against the same oppostion. Castleden posted yet another hundred after setting off at a rate of knots right from the off. He received useful support from his captain
Chris Kellaway. Fans of his usually obdurate batting were taking aback by Kellaway striking two 6s, peppering the Stokenchurch pavillion. The Dean finished on 272-8. Stokenchurch's top order started the chase well, bringing the hundred up in the 15th over. Once they were removed however, wickets tumbled quickly and the game as a contest was quickly over. Castleden claimed three wickets with his off-spin while
Matt Wells-Cole and
Charlie Bond each claimed two wickets.
A fine weekend for the Dean continued into their midweek form as they shocked a strong Windsor side to win by 48 runs.
