15 Jul 2010 : OUTSTANDING WEEKEND FOR THE DEAN
In a complete reversal of last week's fortunes, CDCC enjoyed a succesful weekend as they claimed three victories, a tie and a draw.

The 1st team claimed an astonishing victory over Teddington Town, who had previously only lost one game all season, to end their five match losing streak. Teddington batted first and despite initial slow scoring, managed to post an imposing 281 for 9 thanks to some swashbuckling blows towards the end of their innings. Chris Nunn was the pick of the bowlers with 4-66. Cookham's slow but steady progress initially looked likely to see the game fizzle out into a tame draw, but the partnership between Rory Millar and Tom Bibby turned the game as the home side chased an improbable win. Millar eventually departed for 41 but this only brought Clive Lambden to the crease who continued to up the run-rate. With the required rate rising to over ten an over, Bibby teed off and reached an outstanding century, his first of the season. Despite losing him just before the end, the Dean pulled off the victory in the last over and the celebrations went long into the night....The match was also notable for the attire of Umpire Carlos Thomas.

The 2nds drew in a tight encounter away to Reading 4s, Cookham batted first and racked up 267-8 with Patrick Castleden striking another century and Guy Glover hitting a quick-fire 50 at number 7. Wickets were initially hard to come by for Richard Bibby's side but wickets began to fall rapidly with Andrew Pett and Isaac Richardson the pick of the bowlers. Reading eventually finished on 264-8.

The 3rd team completed a league double over Marlow 3s with a comfortable win. Cookham batted first and racked up 302-9 with Mike Cutting and Roger Evans both posting half centuries. Useful contributions throughout the team ultimately saw them post their signifcant score. Wickets fell quickly at the top of the order and only Hassan and Harvey provided any serious resistance as Marlow ended up 210 all out. Evans was the main wicket-taker as he picked up four victims.

The Sunday 1s played in a thrilling tie against Stokenchurch. Ten-man Cookham posted 124 with Oliver Freeman top-scoring with 31. In response Stokenchurch set off quickly but lost their wickets just as rapidly as Aaron O'Donoghue bowled a hostile spell against his former club to claim 6 wickets.

The Sunday 2s claimed a comfortable 47 run against the same oppostion. Castleden posted yet another hundred after setting off at a rate of knots right from the off. He received useful support from his captain Chris Kellaway. Fans of his usually obdurate batting were taking aback by Kellaway striking two 6s, peppering the Stokenchurch pavillion. The Dean finished on 272-8. Stokenchurch's top order started the chase well, bringing the hundred up in the 15th over. Once they were removed however, wickets tumbled quickly and the game as a contest was quickly over. Castleden claimed three wickets with his off-spin while Matt Wells-Cole and Charlie Bond each claimed two wickets.

A fine weekend for the Dean continued into their midweek form as they shocked a strong Windsor side to win by 48 runs.

08 Jul 2010 : BIBBY PASSED FIT FOR CRUNCH 2ND XI GAME
2nd team Skipper, Richard Bibby has passed himself fit for their crunch Division 5B clash against relegation rivals Reading 4s. In an exclusive interview with this website, Bibby said, 'I'll be playing Saturday. Bowling is 50/50 but batting and catching should be ok so worth me playing.'

The 1st team continue their search for an end to their losing streak with a home fixture against high-flying Teddington Town who comfortably beat them at the start of the season.

The 3rds travel to Medmenham to face Marlow 3s with a strong looking side as they look to bounce back from last week's hammering away to Burnham 4s.

06 Jul 2010 : FOUR DEFEATS AND A DRAW FOR CDCC
Cookham Dean suffered another disappointing weekend which saw them fail to register a win as they suffered four defeats out of five matches. Only the 2nd team managed to avoid defeat as they held on to draw against Maidenhead and Bray 3rds.

The 1st XI slumped to a five wicket defeat to relegation rivals Amersham 2s. Cookham could only post 127, thanks mainly to a lower order resistance from Chris Nunn (40) and Amit Patel (20 not out). In reply, Amersham took an age to score the required runs on a poor wicket but eventually held on to win. Sav Gandesha was once again the pick of the bowlers with 3-41.

The 2nd XI continued their unbeaten run at home to Maidenhead and Bray 3s but were reliant on resistance from the lower order to hold on. Maidenhead and Bray racked up 278 all out as three of their batsmen posted half centuries. Andrew Pett and Isaac Richardson were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets each. A lot of the Cookham top order made starts but failed to go on and it was a counter-attacking innings from Pett (46) that helped guide them to safety, helepd by the obdurate defending of Robin Churchill.

A severely weakened 3rd XI were on the end of a hammering from Burnham 4s as they smashed 305-7 dec from 48 overs. In response, only Roger Evans could find any form with the bat as he posted 56 before Cookham were bowled out for 109.

Both Sunday sides slipped to seven wicket defeats to Odney and Royal Ascot respectively. The star for Cookham was Patrick Castleden who made 128 for the 2nds at home to Royal Ascot.

28 Jun 2010 : WEEKEND ROUND-UP
Cookham Dean's Saturday sides came close to achieving three victories for the club in one day but ultimately it was only the 2nd XI who managed a win with the 3rds and 1sts drawing and losing respectively.

The 1st XI slipped to a one wicket defeat at home to Wokingham 2s to leave them in 6th place in Division 3B. Cookham batted first and racked up a useful looking 241-9 with Tom Bibby and Rory Millar both posting half centuries. The rest of the top six all posted useful 20s.

In response Cookham took the old ball and Sav Gandesha and Pres Patel took wickets at regular intervals. Half centuries from Beecham and England proved to be the mainstay of the Wokingham innings and it was left to Patel to guide the tail home as they won by one wicket.

The 2nds made the trip to London to face Kew 3s and won by 3 wickets largely due to the performances of their captain Richard Bibby and Mike Maroudas. Kew batted first and made 122 in 34.1 overs with Bibby claiming 6-47. In response, the Cookham top order subsided quickly as they slumped to 6-3. Maroudas, however, counter-attacked in typically belligerent style to smash 58 as his side managed to win in only 21.3 overs for the loss of 7 wickets.

For the second week running, the 3rd XI posted a 300+, although unfortunately could only manage a draw as Hayes 4s batted out for a draw with only one wicket needed.

Cookham batted first and Tim Hipgrave got them off to a flying start before being bowled for 33. For the second week running Tom Wells-Cole was involved in a 200 run partnership, this time it was with Roger Evans as they both posted centuries with 132 and 111 respectively.

The Hayes top order was quickly removed thanks to decent opening spells from Wells-Cole and Paul Taylor as they slumped to 30-5. Wickets still fell at regular intervals but Izzat stood firm to finish on 86 not out after batting for 10 overs with the number 11, Mahoney as Hayes escaped defeat to finish on 184-9.

The Sunday 1s picked up a remarkable six run win against a strong Eversley side in a 25 over match shorted due to England's World Cup game against Germany.

The Dean batted first and Patrick Castleden teed off from the word go as he smashed 43 before being dismissed in the 5th over. 22 of those runs coming from one over. Tom Bibby stood firm to post another half century but wickets fell regularly at the other end but received useful support from Jonathan Gay who hit 41 not out to guide the home side to a respectable 168-8 from their allocated overs.

Eversley looked in firm control throughout much of their run chase but the death bowling from Jake Richardson (3-13) and some impressive off-spin from Castleden tightened the screw meant that Cookham managed to win by six runs.

16 Jun 2010 : DISASTROUS WEEK FOR THE DEAN
Cookham Dean's senior sides suffered five straight defeats in a week that also saw their 3rd XI fixture called off due to lack of availability.

It started badly on Tuesday as Cookham crashed out of the Julian Cup to Holyport and Thursday night saw another Twenty20 hammering dished out by Windsor.

The Saturday 1st XI were dismissed for a poor 116 with only Ben Millar providing any serious resistance. Despite this, the bowlers put up an encouraging display as Wooburn Narks won by four wickets.

The 2nds posted 208-9 on a good wicket at Falkland with Christian Austin top scoring with 70. Despite taking some early wickets, a big fourth wicket partnership took the game away from the Dean and Falkland 3s won by 5 wickets to keep the 2nd team in the relegation zone.

Sunday saw a Cookham side again slide to Holyport. Cookham could only muster 112 despite at one stage being 103-5 as the lower order quickly succumbed to the Holyport spinners. The result was never in doubt and the visitors cruised to a 7 wicket win with 19 overs remaining.

Both other Saturday games were abandoned without a ball bowled.

Sunday saw a thriller against Theale and Tilehurst which ended as a draw with the scores level. Cookham batted first and racked up 238-5.
