Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Teddington Town on Sat 30 May 2009 at 13.30

Match report
Cookham Dean drew at home with Teddington Town on Saturday, picking up a disappointing 9 points in the process. Skipper Pres Patel lost his fourth consecutive toss, and the visitors inevitably chose to make first use of a dead and lifeless wicket. However, Teddington did not have it all their own way as Amit Patel (2-42)and Nick Borland (1-42) each picked up an early wicket to reduce them to 10-2. Derek De Goede seemed set for a long innings before becoming Amit Patel's second victim, but this brought the impressive Shimir Patel to the crease. Accompanied by the experienced Dave Simmonds (59), who was beginning to find the boundary with increased regularity after a slow start, Patel played beautifully before being unexpectedly bowled by Christian Austin in the 46th over. The damage had been done by this stage however, as Patel had amassed 80 and played a key part in the demoralising destruction of the Dean attack. Vishal Patel (31) shared in a quickfire stand of 79 for the fifth wicket, and Mark Tamblingson (22) and Vijay Patel chipped in with useful lower order runs to help Teddington post an imposing 276. Uncharacteristically, Pres Patel in particular went around the park, his five overs costing 36. The Teddington batsmen also took a liking to Sav Gandesha's off-spin, though he showed good persistence to nevertheless end up with 4 wickets. Cookham, and in particular George Edlin (25) started positively in reply. With Ben Millar (43) and the in-form Tom Bibby (56) going well, Cookham looked like they were in with a chance, but after Millar was bowled by Shimir Patel in the 20th over, the home team struggled to maintain their momentum. The game eventually petered out into a boring draw, with neither side having a realistic chance of winning in the final 10 overs, as Clive Lambden (40*) and Gandesha (22*) batted out the overs. Derek Goede (2-51) and Patel (1-30) were the pick of the bowlers, but neither were able to extract enough life out of the wicket to ever look like bowling Cookham out.
