Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Wokingham 2 on Sat 11 Jun 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean remained at the top of Division 3B with a four point lead despite suffering a two wicket defeat at home to Wokingham 2s on Saturday. Cookham batted first with the top three all making useful starts. Jon Stewart making 37, Ben Millar 29 and Tom Bibby 27 but it was Patrick Castleden who went on to be the mainstay of the innings. The 16 year old made 84, his first half-century for the 1st XI after stacks of runs on Sundays and in the 2nds. He struck three 6s in his innings before being well caught on the boundary. Cookham posted a solid looking 226-8 with their 52 overs.
Sav Gandesha and Justin Rodgie removed the Wokingham openers with little trouble and the middle order put up little resistance to as they slipped to 55 for 4 from 18 overs. It quickly emerged that Beecham was to be the key wicket if the home side were to win the game as his innings accelerated rapidly with the tail. In his innings of 83 he shared a partnership of 66 in only 9 overs with number 8 Shazad (43) as suddenly the game swung in Wokingham’s favour. Shazad was run out before the end but it proved to be too late as Wokingham won by two wickets in the final over. Next up for Cookham Dean is a ding-dong derby away at Wooburn Narkovians.
