Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Tring Park 2 on Sat 09 Jul 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 1st XI played out a thriller of a match with Tring Park 2nds to claim a crucial 20 point win that keeps them in 2nd place in TVL Division 3B.
Cookham Dean won the toss and put Tring in but after Justin Rodgie removed Tomlinson for 4, Adams and Plumeridge established a partnership that took them to 75-1. Aaron O'Donoghue's pace and the off-spin of Sav Gandesha triggered a collapse however as no-one else made double figures for the Hertfordshire side as they slumped to 111 all out. O'Donoghue with a first 1st XI league 5fer with 6-42 while Gandesha claimed 3-20.
All Cookham players and supporters hoped for a similarly easy chase as against Kew the previous week and as the Millar brothers took them to 28-0 this looked possible. Ben's dissmisal for 23 however triggered an unprecedented collapse. Batsmen numbers 3 to 8 all made ducks as Proudfoot and Orton tore into them while Rory Millar watched on in horror at the other end. When this incredible passage of play ended, Cookham Dean were starring down the barrell of a humiliating defeat that would put a serious dent in their promotion challenge.
Chris Nunn joined Millar at the crease and after a period of consolidation looked to push Cookham towards their small victory target. Nunn playing the more aggressive role while Millar blocked and left, picking up runs where he could. When Nunn was dismissed for 49 on 105, the game was back in the balance again. Sav Gandesha however evoked memories of his time as a top order batsman with a straight drive down the ground for 4 to guide his side to a two wicket victory, Millar wheeling away in celebration after carrying his bat for 28 off 101 balls.
