Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v North Maidenhead 2 on Sat 06 Aug 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 14 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean continued their march towards promotion, with a narrow 14-run victory at home to North Maidenhead 2s in Saturdays local derby.
Batting first, Cookham posted a competitive total of 222-7 in their 52 overs. The Dean’s innings was dominated by Rory Millar who batted the whole way through to finish on 101 not out; his maiden first team league century.
Cookham did not get off to the best start with John Stewart being cleaned bowled by Zorain (3-77) in the first over of the match. Stand-in skipper Tom Bibby (60) joined Millar at the crease and after a slow start both started to score fluently.
Bibby departed for 60 soon after drinks and at this point Millar started to bat more aggressively reaching his century off the penultimate ball of the innings and with the able support of Tom Wells-Cole (27) and Christian Austin (14) helped the score up to 222-7.
In reply, North Maidenhead got off to a poor start with opening bowlers Chris Nunn (3-44) and Justin Rodgie (3-60) ripping through the top order to leave them struggling at 60-5.
But when Aziz (40) joined Jaura at the wicket, the away side consolidated and the momentum suddenly swung in the favour of North Maidenhead with both playing a fine array of attacking shots that went to all corners of the ground.
However, when Jaura finally departed for 88 after a good catch in the deep by Clive Lambden, the innings started to crumble as the side losing four quick wickets.
The final pairing of Asghar and Masood did share a partnership of 26 to make it a nervy finish for the Dean, but with three overs to spare the former was bowled by Austin which handed the Dean a vital 25-point victory.
