Marlow Park v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 14 May 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 2nd XI claimed an impressive four wicket win over near neighbours Marlow Park in their Thames Valley Divison 5B game on Saturday afternoon. Park batted first and made a solid start with openers Khan (64) and D Hawkins (31) seeing the new ball off well. The canny combination of Mark Anderson and James Taylor broke this partnership however and started to make inroads into the home side’s middle order. Wickets began to fall at regular intervals Hanif (42) and Lombard (34 not out) offered resistance to the Dean’s attack. Andy Pett hovered up the tail with three wickets but not before Riaz, batting at number 10, had struck a useful 26 to help guide his side to a solid 235-9.
Cookham were soon struggling as Arun Brar and Simon D’Ardenne were both dismissed cheaply but Patrick Castleden was beginning to look dangerous, getting himself off the mark with a 6. Skipper Jake Richardson was given out lbw for 16 and Christian Austin was cleaned up first ball to leave the visitors starring defeat in the face at 65 for 4. Castleden was joined at the crease by Rob Mettler and the two soon looked to repair the damage as they built up a strong partnership. Castleden eventually posted his second TVL century before falling lbw for 111 while Mettler made 51. Their dismissals left it to Mike Maroudas and Andy Pett to finish the game off, Maroudas in typically brutal form as he finished on 26 not out as Cookham picked up a twenty point win.
