Cookham Dean Cricket Club 3rd XI v Eastcote 4 on Sat 21 May 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 3rd XI suffered a second succssive defeat in Division 9B of the Thames Valley as Eastcote 4s made it three twenty point wins in a row for the North West London club.
Eastcote won the toss and surprisingly put Cookham in with the conditions looking set fair for batting. The Eastcote bowling was wayward to start with as the extras columns quickly began to fill in and Chris Kellaway was cutting anything wide to the boundary. The visitors made early break-throughs though with Arun Brar bowled by a ball that came in at him extravagantly and Roger Evans caught behind off a wide delivery. Darren Davies joined Kellaway at the crease and he set about attacking the bowling with some fine extra cover drives. Both made half-centuries with Kellaway making 72 and Davies falling for exactly 50. Mike Cutting made a brisk 45 to help take Cookham's score past 250 and they eventually finished on 263-8 from their 52 overs.
An immpressive opening burst from Andrew Partridge removed the Eastcote openers quickly. This brought T Norris and Saley to the crease and it soon appeared obvious why the Eastcote captain was happy to chase when inserting Cookham at the toss. Both left handers hit strongly through the off side and it was clear that they were not going to hang around for a bore draw. They put on 138 before a lapse of concentration by Saley saw him pick out Roger Evans off Arun's Brar bowling. Soon after, Mike Cutting had White out lbw and Norris fell just before the end. Not before he had brought up his century though. Suddenly a draw looked likely as Eastcote were now needing over 7 an over, aggressive hitting from their skipper Roan though soon ended any doubts and they won by 5 wickets with just over an over to spare.
