Match report Cookham Dean 3rd XI crashed to the bottom of Thames Valley 9B after an agonising nine run defeat to Burnham 4ths in an outstanding game of cricket on Saturday.

Cookham Dean won the toss and skipper Jonathan Gay made the bold decision to put Burnham in. This looked to have backfired as A Hussain and Baig put on 50 in quick time for the first wicket. The dismissal of Baig, bowled by Andy Partridge for 25 created an opening however and wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Andy Murdoch was the pick of the attack as he bowled throughout the innings to pick up 4-77 off 18 overs. Magesh Dev supported him ably with 3-13 as his off-spin helped to wrap up the Burnham tail

This left Cookham with a tricky ten over session before tea and they slumped to 22-4 as Baig took 3-8 in 5 overs and Burnham skipper Imran Fareed picked up two. After tea Andy Murdoch and Andy Partridge began a rebuilding job and the game began to swing slightly in Cookham's favour. Partridge fell for 28 but Murdoch was striking the ball nicely and receiving useful support from Seth Munn who was blocking an end up well. Murdoch's dismissal for 60 proved crucial however as Fareed claimed the last three wickets in quick succession to bowl The Dean out for 136.
