Hayes 4 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 3rd XI on Sat 06 Aug 2011 at 1pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 3rd XI scrambled home to a three wicket win over Hayes 4ths at the somewhat dilapidated suuroundings of the Glaxo Sports Ground in Greenford. Cookham skipper Jonathan Gay won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to field after inspecting the green wicket.
Isaac Richardson and Dan Roberts started slightly waywardly as Singla and Nawaz looked to bat aggressively from the off. Richardson removed both in quick succession however and from there Hayes suffered a middle order collapse thanks to the bowling of Mike Cutting (3-34) and Roberts picked up two wickets as well. Manlow (23) and Shah (26) shared a frustrating partnership to guide Hayes to some sense of respectability on a wicket demonstrating excessively variable bounce. The return of Richardson quickly finished off the tail though to finish with 4-26 as Hayes were bowled out for 127.
On such a pitch, that score looked to be not far short of par so Chris Kellaway and Jonathan Gay made a watchful start in guiding their side to 35-0. Both fell in quick succession to balls that popped off a length to gift catches to gully and Cookham's middle order fell away badly as they slumped to 61-6. Mike Cutting and Karthik Raghavan counter attacked well though and despite Cutting being hit square in the face by a ball that lifted violently, they managed to guide Cookham to within ten of victory. Raghavan fell for 28 just before the end and it was left to Roberts to finish the game off with a four and a six while the blood-soaked Cutting finished on 32 not out!
