Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Perivale Phoenicians on Sun 15 May 2011 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean’s Sunday XI eventually stumbled to a four wicket win at Ricketts Field against Perivale Phoenicians. The visitors from West London batted first and their openers battled well against hostile opening spells from Justin Rodgie and Rob Mettler with most of their runs coming off edges through the slip region. Mettler eventually removed Ammad for 14 as he was caught behind by Murdoch. This brought Swaran to the crease who looked to play aggressively from the outset and made a brisk half-century. Meanwhile, wickets were beginning to fall regularly as John Smith took two wickets in quick succession, the second of which caught by Simon D’Ardenne performing a juggling act. Mark Jones, in his first game of the season, took two wickets on his return while the canny medium pace of James Taylor took four wickets. Youngster Greg Davis also claimed a wicket as the visitors ended up at an under par score of 142 all out.
Tom Bibby fell early on, caught and bowled for 8, to the impressive left arm seam bowling of Patel but D’Ardenne, on his 27th birthday was hitting the ball nicely and harvesting runs aplenty with the field set defensively. He received support from Andy Murdoch (22), Jonathan Gay (10) and Mike Cutting (19) as in his quest to secure the not out and guide his side to victory. D’Ardenne duly brought up his first 50 for the club since 2009 but fell just before the end. This left the finishing job to Taylor and Australian import Rodgie who batted well to get their side to the finish line. Rodgie had earlier hit a huge six with 12 runs still needed to settle any nerves that were building for the home side.
