Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Theale and Tilehurst on Sun 29 May 2011 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 72 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean Sunday 1sts won by 72 runs against Theale and Tilehurst at Ricketts Field thanks mainly to the batting of stand-in skipper Aaron O’Donoghue and Patrick Castleden. The Dean batted first and Ben Millar and Arun Brar got them off to a fluid start as they each made 22 before departing. This brought O’Donoghue, the Saturday 1st XI’s number 11 (number 10 if quick runs needed) to the crease along with Castleden and the former was immediately in aggressive mood with the bat. Castleden meanwhile was happy to play a more watchful innings than usual. O’Donoghue hit seventeen 4s in a swashbuckling innings of 94 before being bowled attempting to guide it down to the third man. He and Castleden (81) shared a partnership of 185 in 23 overs as they ran Theale ragged. Justin Rodgie hit a quick-fire 27 not out including one big 6 as CDCC finished on 289 for 4 from 40 overs.
Theale were never likely to seriously threaten to chase that down but Wigmore impressed with the bat for them, making a century for the second year in succession against Cookham Dean. He received little support however with Holder (27) and Shotter (26 not out) the only others making decent contributions. Cookham’s huge total allowed the bowlers to be rotated regularly and wickets were shared around, Mike Cutting taking 2-27. There was the also a rare bowl for Simon D’Ardenne who snared a wicket after passing wicket-keeping duties to Castleden. Theale finished on 217-6 as the game petered out to a predictable conclusion.
