Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v White Waltham on Sun 14 Aug 2011 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean entertained White Waltham in a tight high scoring match which proved to be a great day for cricket, as long as you were a batsman. The visitors batted first and despite useful opening spells from Richardson and Jones, the openers never looked in any real trouble on a pitch that was as true as could be. Second team “strike bowler” James Taylor, however fancied his chances, but the smile was soon wiped from his face after he recorded the dirtiest figures of his Cookham Dean career, being spanked like a “Ginger Stepchild” to all parts to record figures of 0 for 46 from 4 overs. The Opening batsmen (Elliot and Earl) continued on their merry way and despite useful spells from “outstanding clubman” Mike Cutting and part time slow bowler Arun “Tamwar” Brar , they could not be dislodged and both posted unbeaten centuries to set the Dean a target of 255.
In reply, the “motorway” pitch did not deteriorate for the home side and two fine innings from Patrick Castleden (85) and Skipper Rory “Cdog” Millar (94) meant it was definitely game on. When Rory was out heartbreakingly 6 runs short of what would have been a second century in a week, the job was left to Tom Bibby and James Taylor to finish. When Bibby threw away his wicket to a 13 year old after a solid contribution (27), the outcome was seriously in doubt. However Simon D’Ardenne hit a solid four through the covers before Taylor wrapped up the victory with an enormous straight bigun and a single, much to the delight of the watching crowd.
