Match report Cookham Dean 2nds claimed a three run win in a thriller against an under strength Boyne Hill 2nd XI at Ricketts Field. The visitors won the toss and unsurprisingly chose to field on a wet wicket. Lloyd and Prashant bowled accurately as Cookham openers Jake Richardson and Arun Brar made a watchful start. Lloyd eventually accounted for Brar by hitting his leg stump after the batsman walked across his stumps. Cookham captain Richardson began to open his arms up a bit more once the change bowlers came on and was unfortunate to be bowled for 38. Nick Paveley (16), Adam Barratt (10), Jonathan Gay (13) Tom Harvey (11 not out) all made double figures while Andy Murdoch added some much needed impetus with 28. The Dean eventually completed their 40 overs on 157 for 8.


Despite a wayward start, Isaac Richardson had A Griffen caught at square leg for 9. This brought Prashant to the crease who attacked well, hitting strongly to the leg side with the support of Tiwana. This pair took Boyne Hill to 110-1 and seemingly cruising for victory. Having made his 50, Prashant tried one ambitious shot too many and was trapped lbw by James Taylor as he attempted a reserve sweep. An amazing collapse followed and Taylor became the second CDCC bowler to claim a hat-trick this season. He first had Cheema adjudged lbw off one of his classic half-track slower balls, Gokharu followed the next ball as the ball just clipped the off stump. Calvalho became the third victim as he was struck on the toe and after a prolonged appeal, the umpire eventually raised his finger to give Taylor his hat-trick! This turned the game on its head and suddenly the home side had an opening in the game. Porter (18) provided a calming influence on Boyne Hill’s batting but when he departed, bowled by the youngster Barratt, the game seemed to swing firmly in Cookham’s favour. Barratt picked up 2-17 while fellow colt Tom Harvey took 2-23 in his first senior game for the club. With five runs required for victory in the last over, Boyne Hill took a single down to fine and leg and whilst hesitating over a second run, a direct hit from Taylor came in to end the game with O Griffen well short of his ground.
