Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Reading Lawyers on Sun 06 May 2012 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 194 runs
Match report
James Taylor wrote himself into Cookham Dean folklore as he remarkably claimed a second hat-trick of the weekend as 10 man Reading Lawyers were steam-rolled by 194 runs at Ricketts Field.
The Lawyers won the toss and put Cookham in. The hosts made a steady start but a mix-up between Tom Bibby and Ben Millar saw a furious Millar run out for 17. This brought Patrick Castleden, escaping from the revision books, to the crease and he quickly got into his stride. He passed Bibby's score quickly, striking the ball aggressively down the ground. Bibby was eventually caught in the deep for 35 and the arrival of Jake Richardson saw the run rate increase his further. He smashed 65 in only 10 overs with Castleden this time playing second fiddle, one over from Mullett saw Richardson smash three 6s. Following Richardson and Castleden's (71) dismissals, the run rate slowed with Reading Lawyers picking up wickets regularly. Cookham eventually finished on 218 for 6.
Christian Austin dismissed E Lake third ball of the innings for 0 in a firey opening burst. Baker (6) and Loosemoore (11) started to take the visitors to some relative respectability at 19-1 but an incredible collapse soon followed once Austin and Brar dismissed the two of them.
The first two of Taylor's hat-trick saw him bowl Mullett and trap Burrows lbw with the batsman playing a bizarre shot to the leg side. A big build-up to the third ball followed with Taylor offering to pay batsman Farouq his match fee if he gave his wicket away. With men crowded around the bat, the delivery clipped the off stump to send the Cookham fielders into hysterics. The ICC declined to comment on suggestions that they may investigate the comments made by Taylor before the fateful delivery. Seymour attempted some lusty blows but eventually chipped Taylor to mid-on as the away side crumbled to 24 all out. Taylor finishing with figures of 4-2.
