Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Windsor 2s on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 110 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean played hosts to Windsor 2s in a top of the table clash in Division 4A on Saturday. Cookham came into the game in second place, 13 points behind leaders Windsor, who had yet to lose all season.
The Dean won the toss and elected to bat, but were reduced to 51-2 by Taz Hill (3-55), before Clive Lambden joined Ben Millar to put on 124 in good time for the third wicket. The part-time leg spin of Umar Malik eventually accounted for Millar, caught on the midwicket boundary for 82 from 91 balls. Imran Butt went cheaply, and after Lambden was run out for a well-played 92, Tom Bibby ensured that the innings maintained its momentum with a quickfire 45* from 27 balls. This allowed skipper Pres Patel to declare after 49 overs with the score on 282-7. All the Windsor bowlers took a bit of stick, with only Hill going at less than five runs per over.
Cookham opted to take the old ball on a worn wicket offering exceptional turn and bounce. This immediately paid dividends, with Butt (2-46) taking the first wicket with the second ball of the innings. Mo Alam rode his luck to make a quick 41, but wickets fell at regular intervals as Windsor attempted to keep up with the run rate. Sawan Gandesha (3-23) was the pick of the bowlers, and he removed keyman Malik for 22 to ensure Windsor had virtually no hope of winning.
After Tom Rosenthal, who again bowled well, had removed Tom Hartridge (23), the Dean opted to take the new ball in the 37th over with the score at 147-8. This left big Amit Patel and Rosenthal to seal the game, with Rosenthal taking the final wicket, bowling Chris Edge. Windsor managed to pick up their fourth batting point but were bowled out for just 175.
This 107 run victory ensured the Dean jumped ahead pf their opponents into first place, confirming them as genuine contenders for the league title in their first year in the Thames Valley League.
