Match report An under strength 2nd team did well to draw against early season pace setters Royal Ascot at Ricketts Field. With availability poor, Tom Wells-Cole was drafted in for his senior debut and old stagers such as John Gay and Andrew Millar were wheeled out for a game. Ascot made 241-4 with all but one of their batsmen passing 30. Stand-in skipper Andy Pett had limited bowling options so only used four bowlers throughout the innings, Paul Farnborough claimed two wickets.
In response Cookham batted slowly with Simon McCallion making a solid 50. His main supporter was Paul Farnborough who batted well for his 35. A flurry of wickets meant that a run chase was out of the question so a typically solid innings from Keith Hannam (17 not out) with some support from the lower order meant the 2nds claimed a draw with the score on 160-8. The pick of the Ascot bowlers was Ahmed who took 4-28 from 15 overs.
