Match report The 2nd team won their first game of the season as they won a thriller against North Maidenhead by five runs! Cookham batted first and lost Simon McCallion and Tim Hipgrave early on; this however brought Shaun Glover to the crease who launched an aggressive counter-attack on the North Maids bowlers. Keith Hannam, meanwhile, was in typically obdurate form as he hung around while his captain scored most of the runs. Glover eventually fell for 82 while Hannam departed for 19, leading to something of a mini-collapse. Useful late runs from Mark Fish, Rob Mettler and Mike Cutting however meant that Cookham posted a decent 225-8. Former Cookham colt Atiq Ahktar was the pick the North Maids bowlers with 3-35.
Nick Borland and Mike Cutting opened the bowling and both bowler economical spells, picking up a wicket apiece early on. Wickets fell at regular intervals but some typically cavalier batting from North Maidenhead saw them make a late charge for victory. Although Mike Maroudas and Andy Pett were expensive, they managed to pick up five crucial wickets between them. In a dramatic finish, Mike Cutting took the final wicket with Tim Hipgrave taking the catch that sparked some wild celebrations as the visitors sneaked home by 5 runs.
