Caversham and Redingensians 2 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 14 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
The 2nds cruised to a six wicket victory at struggling Caversham and Redingensians at a warm Redingensians Sports Club. Caversham batted first with Waqar (34) showing early intent by flashing at everything outside the off-stump, his batting partner Naeem was more defensive, hanging around for a long time for his 4. Once Mike Cutting and Ian Frankland dismissed the openers, wickets began to fall at regular intervals with Cutting claiming another one and one wicket each for Rob Mettler and Paul Farnborough. The middle order of Jibran and Tariq began to hit out as they threatened to take the game away from the Dean. Cookham skipper Shaun Glover turned to his slow bowlers Andy Pett and Jonathan Gay and almost immediately they pulled the game back in Cookham’s favour. Gay, playing his first game since returning from University had Jibran adjudged lbw for 37 and this began a collapse as he and Pett soon wrapped up the tail. Caversham were bowled out for 195 and failed to bat out their overs.
Ollie Freeman and Mark Fish were given a chance at the top of the order and did well as they gave their side a solid start against the decent seam bowling of Kennealy and Ali. Both departed in quick succession however and when Farnborough followed first ball it looked like Cookham could be in for a nervy run chase. Such fears were quickly put to one side however as Shaun Glover and Mike Maroudas took the attack to the home side and both struck quick-fire half-centuries. Maroudas eventually departed for 58 with his side close to victory while Glover finished unbeaten on 77 with his brother Guy at the other end on 7 not out.
