Boyne Hill 2 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 28 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 2 wickets
Match report
A decent team performance saw Cookham Dean 2nds claim their fourth successive TVL 6A against local rivals Boyne Hill. On a warm day, Boyne Hill elected to bat first on a green wicket as Cookham’s opening bowlers Bibby and Borland looked to take any possible advantage from the track. Boyne Hill’s batsmen started slowly as extras from the visiting side dominated the total! It took a stunning catch from Mike Cutting at first slip to make the breakthrough as Akram was removed for 3. Later in the same over Bibby trapped Morgan lbw for 0 to leave the home side struggling. Boyne Hill continued to make heavy work of batting and were struggling at 66-5 from more than 20 overs when O’Reilly came to the crease and launched an aggressive counter-attack that left the Dean fielders shell-shocked. He smashed 85 from no more than 30odd balls as the game rapidly changed shape. He was well supported by Stewart who scored a quick 37 before he was removed by the off-spin of Rory Millar. Millar and Borland quickly wrapped up the tail and Boyne Hill were dismissed for 232 from 44 overs.
Cookham’s innings got off to a flier as Ollie Freeman and Millar put on more than 70 for the first wicket in 15 overs. The introduction of Goodwin and Abraham into the attack slowed the run rate and Cookham began to lose wickets at regular intervals due to a series of poor shots and some suicidal running from Arun Brar as he ran out his captain Shaun Glover and then, later on, himself. Farnborough, Maroudas, Glover and Brar all made useful contributions however as the Dean looked to close in on victory. Richard Bibby (33) and Jonathan Gay (11) both batted sensibly and guided Cookham to within touching distance of a win before they both got out with only two runs required for victory. It was left to Rob Mettler to hit the winning runs as Cookham consolidated their place in mid-table and closed the gap on the teams above them.
