Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI v British Airways 2 on Sat 26 Jul 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Top of the table British Airways 2s proved too much for Cookham Dean 2nds as they claimed a comfortable five wicket win at a warm Ricketts Field on Saturday afternoon. B.A won the toss and surprisingly put the home side in and they got off to a great start as they raced to 30-0 off 5 overs. Simon D’Ardenne was the first man to go however as he flashed at one outside the off-stump as was well taken by first slip. Ollie Freeman followed not long after as he was bowled by the pace of Yaya (2-37) for a well made 24. Arun Brar (27) and Paul Farnborough (43) steadied the ship with a partnership of 55 that looked to push the Dean towards a decent total. Both departed in quick succession to the spin of Prakash, which left Cookham wobbling slightly at 120-4. Andy Pett and Andy Murdoch shared a useful stand off 35 and just as Murdoch threatened to take the game away from B.A, he was bowled for 28. This proved a key wicket as Cookham’s lower order provided little resistance as they were eventually bowled out for 202 in the 52nd over.
B.A’s opening bats came out of the blocks at a rapid pace as they looked to smash anything they possibly could. Although agricultural, this tactic proved effective as the 50 partnership came in only eight overs. From here, Cookham were always playing catch-up and although Richard Bibby bowled well for his 3-49 a victory was never realistic. Faisal top scored for B.A with 69 while there were also wickets for Andy Pett and Jonathan Gay as the visitors cruised home with more than 15 overs to spare.
