Ruislip v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 02 Aug 2008 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn

Match report Cookham Dean 2nds came agonisingly close to victory on Saturday afternoon as they failed to take the final wicket required for a win against second placed Ruislip 1sts. Ruislip skipper, and former Cookham Dean player, Bipin Patel won the toss and after a conference with a few senior players, put the visitors into bat in damp conditions. The innings saw a watchful start from Cookham openers Ollie Freeman and Arun Brar as they toiled against the seam and swing of Vasani and Hart. Incredibly, it took Freeman thirty balls to get off the mark! The rain soon came and after a torrential downpour, 14 overs had been lost from the game which left Cookham a maximum of 45 overs to bat. Freeman emerged from the rain break a different batsman as he smashed three sixes in quick succession and rapidly took control of the bowling attack. It took the introduction of Patel into the attack to slow things down as he had Brar caught behind for 16 in his first over. A mini-collapse followed as Farnborough (4) and Freeman (45) followed in quick succession leaving Andy Murdoch and Andy Pett to rebuild the innings. They batted sensibly for a while before a mix-up saw Murdoch ran out for 14. Mettler followed not long after and it was left the lower order to guide Cookham to a degree of respectability as Cutting, Gay and Borland all made double figures. Cookham were eventually bowled out for 148 from 44.3 overs with Patel claiming 6-32.

With Ruislip having only 41 overs to bat and the wicket aiding the seam bowlers, this was never likely to be an easy target to chase. This certainly proved to be the case as Bibby removed Ingram for a duck as he left one that swung in and clattered into his off-stump. Bibby’s swing bowling proved a constant menace for the Ruislip batsmen and none of them really got going as the run-rate went at a painfully slow rate. Ayling, Goodman and Windsor hung around however and managed to make 20s, giving the home side a chance of victory. Once these three were removed however, the batsman offered little resistance as Borland, Pett and Cutting all claimed wickets at regular intervals. The Dean’s cause was also aided by the athletic wicket-keeping of Andy Murdoch who took a stunning catch diving to his left after Nick Borland had found the inside edge. With Cookham taking the 9th wicket with around 6 overs remaining, victory seemed a certainty but Manda and Hart managed to bat out the remaining overs, surviving a couple of confident lbw appeals along the way.
