Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI v Boyne Hill 2 on Sat 30 Aug 2008 at 12.30pm
Match was Drawn with scores level
Match report
A remarkable game of cricket saw Cookham Dean 2nds and Boyne Hill 2nds draw with the scores level at Ricketts Field. Boyne Hill batted first on a hot day and Shaun handed the new ball to young debutant Isaac Richardson and fellow colt Rob Mettler. Both bowled accurately at gave little away in the face of defensive batting from Boyne Hill. Mettler claimed the breakthrough as he had Griffin dismissed for 8. Nick Borland and Ian Frankland each bowled hostile spells of seam bowling as the away side’s batsmen showed little intent to attack. Hamza (42) and Stewart (69) however started to attack and began to threaten building an imposing total. Three quick wickets from Mike Cutting limited this however and Boyne Hill finished on 197-7 from their 52 overs.
The pace of Sri Lankan seamer Hamza was always likely to be the major threat to the Dean’s run chase and this proved the case as he bowled quickly and accurately at the Cookham top order. With the support of Elms (2-48) he limited the scoring opportunities of the home side’s batting line-up and none of the top order really made starts. A rare appearance from Guy Glover however looked to take the game towards the visitors. He struck a fine 50 and received good support from Andy Pett and Mark Fish. The return of Hamza saw Gay, Borland and Richardson all clean bowled in quick succession but Fish continued to cope well and guided the Dean to within touching distance of victory. He eventually finished on 45 not out as the two sides finished with the scores level after 100 overs of cricket.
