Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v West End Esher on Sun 20 Apr 2008 at 1.00pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 67 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean secured an ultimately convincing 67 run win in a competitively fought first round Village Cup game at Ricketts Field on Sunday. Put into bat by West End Esher of Surrey, the hosts soon found themselves in trouble at 32-3 after the dangerous Nishil Patel was run out. However, Ben Millar (36) was joined in a 67 run third wicket partnership by Imran Butt to consolidate Cookhams position. The innings briefly threatened to capitulate after the introduction of Adil Dutta’s (4-34) canny left arm spin, but Chris Nunn, batting at eight, hit a valuable 22 to edge the total up to 176. Butt top-scored with a well-played 52.
West End’s reply never really got going after Paul Lynns was controversially run-out to leave them struggling on 24-2. None of the visiting batsmen were given any opportunity to score runs in a difficult environment by the Dean’s six-pronged seam attack., with only skipper Ian Cripps putting up any resistance with a slow 33 as West End were bundled out for 109 in the 35th over. Amit Patel particularly enjoyed the uneven bounce of the early season wicket as he proved the pick of the bowlers with 5-23.
