Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 2nd XI v Hillingdon Manor on Sun 13 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 18 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean Sunday 2nds won by 18 runs at home to Hillingdon Manor on a warm afternoon at Ricketts Field. The home side batted first after winning the toss, and Simon D’Ardenne soon got stuck into the opposition bowling as he struck a quick-fire 27 in an opening stand of 44 in 6 overs with Sawan Gandesha. Gandesha was then joined at the crease by Farnborough who was looking well set on 22 when he left a straight one from Pike. Gandesha fell just short of a half-century as he was given out lbw for 47. Aden Sehota batted well for his 25 before he was run out by a direct hit after a mix-up with his captain Jonathan Gay. The innings was in danger of falling away as Allard, Brar and Bond were each dismissed in quick succession. Greg Holmes however struck a few lusty blows in a quick innings of 19 and number 11 Jamie Andrews made 8. Gay was caught on the boundary from the penultimate ball of the innings for 20 that gave Robinson a five wicket haul. Cookham’s final total was a decent 217.
Andrews and Brar bowled well to leave Hillingdon in serious trouble at 35-4 but a partnership between Smith (77) and Pike (60) threatened to take the game away from the home side. A top spell of bowling from debutant Charlie Bond proved crucial as his 8 overs cost only 24. Bond also picked up the key wicket of Pike that ultimately ended any realistic chance of a Hillingdon victory. Gandesha quickly hovered up the tail with 4-15 from 3 overs and Sehota claimed the final wicket that saw the home side claim a deserved victory.
