Chalfont St Peter v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 2nd XI on Sun 27 Jul 2008 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean Sunday 2nds romped to an easy win against Chalfont St Peter 3rds at Beaconsfield on Sunday afternoon. Chalfont won the toss and unsurprisingly elected to bat on a decent looking wicket. Mike Knowles-Leak (2-28) claimed a wicket in his first over while at the other end Cookham Dean debutant Aaron O’Donoghue bowled at a decent pace and claimed one wicket himself. Cartledge (31) and G.Tylar (34) looked to rebuild Chalfont’s innings although this was never at much of a pace as Charlie Bond bowled his 8 overs and took 1-20. The innings was drifting and a competitive total looked unlikely before Brown (48) was joined at the crease by Webb who slogged five 6s in a quick-fire innings of 38. It was left to Arun Brar (1-16) and Sawan Gandesha (2-14) to finish off the tail and they ultimately restricted the home side to 185-9 from their 40 overs.
With the boundary on one side incredibly small, this was never likely to be too competitive a total. Gandesha and youngster Tom Wells-Cole proved this to be the case as they easily dispatched the home side’s bowling attack to all parts of the ground. They shared a stand of 121 in 18 overs before Gandesha was run out 39. This had come not long after 15 year old Wells-Cole had scored his first senior 50 for Cookham, following his colts century earlier in the season. This brought Paul Farnborough to the crease and he didn’t want to hang around as he punished the bowling on his way to 44 not out. This innings included a Kevin Pietersen style ‘switch-hit’ for two. Cookham won by 9 wickets with more than 16 overs to spare as Farnborough and Wells-Cole shared a 70 run partnership in just over five overs. Wells-Cole finished on 76 not out.
