Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Fiddlers on Sun 18 May 2008 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 51 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean recorded a comfortable 51 run win over Fiddlers on Sunday. They managed to post 248-7 from their forty overs, thanks mainly to 74 by Ben Millar. The innings started steadily, with Millar and Jake Richardson (17), fresh from 66 for the first team the day before, putting on 45 for the first wicket. Richardson was bowled by the impressive Steve Jessup, who was unlucky not to finish with better figures than 1-39 from his ten overs. The hosts, and in particular Millar, were cruising on 136-2 when Millar was involved in an unfortunate run out, but this brought Patrick Castleden to the crease, and he looked extremely assured for a 13 year-old, making 45* in an innings that showed his potential. Mike Cutting (29) and Andy Murdoch (19) also contributed in the latter stages of the innings, although both fell to the slow left armer Nigel Haines (3-75), infamous for his destructive spell of bowling in the Julian Cup for White Waltham against Cookham in 2006.
Another youngster, this time Izaac Richardson, removed both Fiddlers opening bats, but Simon Mahill (52) put up solid resistance, and he put on 126 for the fourth wicket with Jessup (83). However, the former was bowled by Murdoch (2-12) and the latter by Butt, who returned to bowl canny off spin, and finish as the pick of the bowlers with 3-31 from 15 overs. The Fiddlers never recovered from the fall of these two wickets, as they limped to 197-8, some way shy of the target.
