Match report Cookham Dean lost the John Platt Trophy on Sunday after a shameful batting display at Moneyrow Green. Chasing 182, all the top four gave their wickets away having been well set, with Ben Millar top scoring with a quickfire 34. Having been 64-1 after just ten overs, the Dean innings subsided to 100-7 after Tom Bibby was adjudged LBW off the bowling of Chris Morgan’s (3-26) loopy leg-spin. Mattias was the other bowler to do the damage, taking three wickets whilst going at five and a half runs per over. Mark Powell (17) and Christian Austin (31) gave Cookham brief hope as they batted well to put on fifty for the eighth wicket, but Morgan struck to remove Powell, and when James Walker (2-33) returned to the attack to dismiss Austin, Dean had been bowled out for a disappointing 158, still 24 runs shy of the target.
Earlier in the day, Imran Butt bowled well to take three wickets against his old club, whilst Tom Bibby, Mike Cutting and in particular Christian Austin, all bowled well to snare two wickets apiece to help restrict Port to a modest total. Skipper Taylor top-scored with a somewhat unorthodox 52, making hay against the change bowlers after a slow start, whilst Andy Homer hit a valuable 29 in the middle order.
