Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI v Eversley on Sun 29 Jun 2008 at 2pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 50 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean secured a comfortable fifty run win over Eversley at Ricketts Field on Sunday. Captain Mike Cutting won the toss, and with a number of players still feeling lethargic after the previous day’s wins, opted to bat first on a wicket that had the appearance of a fifth day wicket somewhere in the sub-continent.
Sav Gandesha continued his slump in the form with the bat, as he was first man out for 11. However, Tim Hipgrave joined Imran Butt at the crease, and they carried the score to 69 until Hipgrave was bowled. This was a shame as he was beginning to look in fine touch, with some Ricketts Field punters even being quoted odds as low as 16-1 that he would score his first fifty since his return to the club. Ben Millar (48), batting at 4, added 134 for the third wicket with Imran Butt, who was now beginning to look in sensational form. Having taken 51 balls to complete his first 50, he took a real liking to many of the Eversley change bowlers, hitting three sixes on his way to his first ton for the club. After Millar’s dismissal, Cutting (17) ensured the innings lost no momentum, with the Dean reaching 264-6 from their allocation of forty overs. Butt was fifth man out for a superb 146.
The visitors never showed any real intention of chasing down their target, with Richard Bibby and Oliver Freeman, enjoying a rare bowl for the Dean, both going at less than three and a half runs per over from their opening eight over spells. Sav Gandesha bowled well again, claiming two wickets including that of his bunny Matthew Spooner. First team batsmen Chris Last and Simon Green finally got the innings moving, but with four wickets down and the required run rate spiralling out of control, it was far too late for them to mount a serious challenge. This allowed a rare opportunity for part-time bowlers Tim Hipgrave and Ben Millar to turn their arms over in a comical end to the game.
