Gerrards Cross v Cookham Dean Cricket Club Friendly 1st XI on Sun 24 Aug 2008 at 1.30pm
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 64 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean were beaten comfortably by 64 runs at Gerrards Cross on Sunday afternoon. Cookham fielded first after skipper Jonathan Gay lost the toss and opened up with the pace of Aaron O’Donoghue and Christian Austin. Both bowled reasonable spells and each took a wicket each but failed to remove the impressive looking S. Westaway. He continued to bat well and brought up a well made 50 not long after the 20th over and only really looked threatened by the canny operating of Rory Millar. Millar bowled well for his 3-31 from 8 overs, giving nothing away and always looking likely to take wickets. The death bowling was left to Charlie Bond and Jonathan Gay who each finished with expensive figures due to the big-hitting from Westaway (who Bond eventually bowled for 82) with support from J Deane (43 not out) and Fyffe (27). Gerrards Cross eventually finished on 234 for 8 from their 40 overs.
Ben Millar was struck on the helmet first ball as a ball leapt off a length, the first sign of the pitch deteriorating in Cookham’s innings. He was out caught for 11 which brought Rory Millar to the crease. Dave Brooks was looking well set before he was adjudged lbw for 30 and R. Millar followed him not long after as he was bowled for 14. Tim Hipgrave made 14 as well before he was soon bowled by Fyffe. From here Austin was the only one to made double figures as he brought up his first half century of the season whilst wickets tumbled around him. He was eventually bowled for 74 and not outs from O’Donoghue (8) and Bond (3) took Cookham to 170-9 from their 40 overs.
