Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Chalfont St. Peter on Sat 16 May 2009 at 13.30

Match report
Cookham Dean played out a disappointing draw with Chalfont St. Peter on Saturday, picking up only 6 points in the process. Given the sides' depleted seam attacks and the best wicket seen at Ricketts Field for quite some time, the toss was always likely to be crucial. Having called correctly, the visiting captain Shadid Din had no hesitation in batting first, and then proceeded to take Cookham's attack apart, scoring an impressive 85 before being stumped off Tom Bibby's part-time leg-spin. He was supported in a first-wicket stand of 137 by Ahmed, whose turgid innings of 52 was characterised by a number of ugly chips that miraculously continued to evade the Cookham fielders. As a number of catching chances went begging once again, none of the Dean bowlers were able to stem the flow of runs, and a handy unbeaten fifth wicket partnership between Mughal (37*) and Tony Hewston (44*) took Chalfont to 255-4. Sav Gandesha took 2-50 from his 10 overs to finish as the pick of the bowlers, whilst Amit Patel was unlucky early on. Slow bowlers Zaheer Khan (2-60 ) and Din (1-26) were able to take the old ball in reply, and the Cookham top order struggled to get their canny off spin away, slumping to 38-3 from 20 overs. However, Sav Gandesha stuck around to make a patient 48 and he and Tom Bibby (38) put on 73 for the fourth wicket, as Cookham looked to pick up as many batting points as possible. An entertaining late cameo from Christian Austin (33*) helped Cookham to 183-6 at the close of play. Shadid Din was the best of the Chalfont bowlers, capping a good day for the skipper. Cookham Dean visit Marlow Park on Saturday, and expect their seam bowling to be bolstered by the return of Imran Butt and Nick Borland, who figured in Berkshire's pre-season friendly against Gloucestershire.
