Thatcham Town 2 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 06 Jun 2009 at 13.30
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Cookham Dean recorded a third successive away win on Saturday at Thatcham Town 2s in a match reduced to 94 overs, as they chased down 237 with the penultimate ball of the match. Somewhat surprisingly, on a wet and miserable afternoon, the hosts opted to bat first after Pres Patel lost his fifth consecutive toss. This decision seemed initially to backfire, as good bowling by Amit (3-51) and Pres Patel (2-47) and sharp slip catching by Ben Millar reduced Thatcham to 35-4. However, the young pair of Steve Bartholomew (25) and Jamie Young (27) batted boldly to add 59 for the 5th wicket before both fell in quick succession. Unfortunately for the visitors, this was far from the end of the lower order resistance, as the experienced Rob Fraser (22), Patrick Moore (62*) and Tim Mahoney (20) demonstrated that the wicket was a decent one for batting. Indeed, Moore and Mahoney put on 80 in a demoralising ninth wicket partnership, before Chris Nunn (2-29) and Ollie Freeman wrapped up the innings inside 47 overs, crucially giving Cookham an extra two overs to bat. George Edlin (44) and Ben Millar gave the reply the early impetus that was required, putting on 84 inside 18 overs before Edlin attempted one shot to deep backward square too many, and was caught on the boundary. Tom Bibby fell cheaply soon after, but Clive Lambden (83) joined Millar for a crucial third wicket partnership of 59 before Millar fell for a well played 73. However, Lambden paced his innings perfectly, cutting loose in the final 10 overs, to ensure Dean won on the final ball of the match. It was a significant victory for Cookham, as in recent years they have struggled batting second when faced with an imposing target. This, coupled with the fact that three of the other TVL division 3b matches were abandoned, moved Cookham to within two points of second-placed Chenies & Latymer. On Saturday, Cookham travel to Slough 2, who boast a 100% record in what is sure to be a good test of their promotion credentials. Cookham Dean 2s went 12 points clear of Division 6a with a 31 run win over Teddington Town 2s. Mark Fish top-scored with 54, whilst Aaron O'Donoghue (4-29) showed what a fine addition he is to the team with a devastating second spell to blast out the tail.
