Slough 2 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI on Sat 13 Jun 2009 at 13.30
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 7 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, crashing to a heavy 7 wicket defeat away to Slough 2. Cookham won the toss for the first time this season and opted to bat, but Ikhlaq Nawaz and Zain Din bowled impressively with the new ball, the latter having Ben Millar dropped twice in the slips and removing George Edlin and Tom Bibby to leave the visitors struggling on 21-2. Nonetheless, Cookham fought back to work themselves into a strong position as Clive Lambden (67) and Millar (76) combined to add 135 in just 23 overs, with the spinners in particular proving expensive. However, after Lambden misjudged a full toss and was adjudged LBW, Rishi Sharath returned to the attack for an astonishing second spell, taking the remaining 7 wickets inside just 5 overs with his left arm chinamen, to finish with the impressive figures of 7-47. With Millar and Lambden going nicely, Dean had been looking to push on towards 270 plus, but were instead shot out for 187, a score that was never likely to be enough against Slough's long batting line-up. So it proved, as Sarath Jetty (20) and Ali Baig (63) teed off to give Slough the perfect start, before Jetty was removed by Nick Borland's first ball in the sixth over. However, this proved a false dawn for Cookham, and some diabolical fielding allowed Lakmal Kasthuri (42*) and Taz Karim (28*) to maintain Slough's momentum, and win with over 28 overs remaining. Cookham will be hoping for a much improved performance, when they host Hayes, on Saturday.
