Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI v Slough 2 on Sat 15 Aug 2009 at 12.30
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean lost by five wickets at home to Slough 2s on Saturday, as the visitors chased down 210 with ease. Slough have become accustomed to chasing this year, so it was no surprise when they opted to bowl first, and this decision paid dividends as Saud Ahmed, the pick of the Slough bowlers with 4-37 from his 16 overs, removed Ben Millar and Sav Gandesha early on to leave Cookham struggling at 14-2. However, Tom Bibby (53) and Clive Lambden (84) steadied the ship with a 114 third wicket partnership, with both passing 50 for the fifth time in the league this season. However, when Bibby chipped to midwicket off the bowling of Rishi Sharath, the hosts slumped from 128-2 to 196-9, with Ali Akbar (3-22) proving particularly difficult to score off.
Slough came out of the blocks quickly in reply, scoring at well over a run a ball for the first 20 overs. None of the Cookham bowlers were able to stem the flow of runs, with Ali Ahmed (51) and Lakmal Kasturi (30) looking particularly impressive as they peppered the off-side boundary. When Borland bowled Ahmed, Slough still required 65 with six wickets in hand, but Omar Jamshad (36) and Raj Khade (30*) steadied any nerves Slough may have had as they batted in a more subdued manner, guiding their team home with nine overs to spare.
Cookham have now slipped to seventh having won only once in their last ten, and with a tough run-in and the prospect of three teams being relegated from division 3b, need a decent end to the season to guarantee safety. They travel to Hayes on Saturday.
