Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI v Teddington Town 2 on Sat 06 Jun 2009 at 13.30
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 31 runs
Match report
Cookham Dean 2nds went top of TVL Division 6A with a nail-biting win over Teddington Town 2nds at Ricketts Field on Saturday. Teddington unsurprisingly opted to bowl first after damp weather forced a delayed start, with the game reduced to 80 overs. However, top order batsmen Mark Fish (54), Simon D’Ardenne (22) and Shaun Glover (20) showed no signs of struggling with the conditions as they raced to 80 for 1 in the 17th over. With Cookham Dean threatening to post an imposing total, the introduction of legspinner Hopper proved crucial as he first slowed the run rate, then made inroads into the Dean middle order. He finished with 5-47, and along with Fuller (4-62), who bowled tidily throughout the innings, held the hosts to 166 for 9 from their 42 overs.
Early wickets for Cookham Dean seamers Aaron O’Donoghue and Richard Bibby (2-28) set Teddington back, but Patel (28) and Jacer (20) brought the away side back into contention with some counter-attacking batting. All four results were possible as the game entered its final hour, when fine bowling from Mike Cutting (3-31) and Andrew Pett (1-22) swung the match in Cookham Dean’s favour. With Teddington continuing to go after the runs, the Dean took wickets at regular intervals, allowing them to re-introduce O’Donoghue to knock over the tail-enders. His combination of pace and accuracy proved lethal and, with Teddington’s last pair attempting to cling on for a draw, he completed the victory with just three balls remaining. O’Donoghue recorded season’s best figures of 4-29.
The Dean will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season against Boyne Hill 2nds at home next week.
