Aldershot 2 v Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI on Sat 20 Jun 2009 at 13.30
Cookham Dean Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Cookham Dean 2nds maintained their grip on top spot in TVL Division 6A as Aaron O’Donoghue led them to a comfortable away win against Aldershot 2nds.
Choosing to bat first on a sluggish but true wicket, Aldershot found themselves instantly at the mercy of O’Donoghue’s aggressive bowling. The young paceman has been an instant success in his first full season with the Dean, and he was at his potent best in the early stages of this encounter. Aldershot had no answer and were soon reeling at 46 for 7, with O’Donoghue having taken 6 in his first 10 overs. Lower order batsmen Bossom (35 not out) and young number eleven Taylor (18) provided some resistance and, taking advantage of some slack fielding from the Dean, made the Aldershot total respectable. The home side finished on 120 all out, with O’Donoghue returning sensational figures of 8 for 36.
With plenty of overs to bat, the Cookham batsmen were never put under serious pressure by Aldershot, and openers Dave Brooks and Rory Millar batted well for a stand of 63. After Brooks fell for an entertaining 31, Millar began to open up and played an array of attractive shots on the way to his first league fifty of the year. He finished on 60 not out as the Dean cruised home by 9 wickets.
Cookham Dean will expect a sterner test next Saturday when they take on second-placed side Hayes 2nds in a top-of-the-table clash at Ricketts Field.
