Match report Wonder-Brar sets up crushing win

Cookham Dean 2nds batsman Arun Brar's first league century laid the platform for a comprehensive win over rock-bottom Caversham and Redingensians in their TVL Division 6A clash on Saturday.

Asked to bat first on an unseasonably damp wicket, the Dean got off to a steady start with Mark Fish (30) and Jake Richardson building an opening stand of 83 in 19 overs. After Fish ran himself out, Brar came to the crease and he and Richardson increased the tempo of the innings against the change bowlers. After Richardson fell for an impressive 71, Brar took control of the innings himself and, with able support from Shaun Glover (22) and Rob Mettler (20 not out), lead the Dean to a commanding total of 292 for 6. He brought up his century off the very last ball of the innings, finishing on exactly 100 not out. Caversham's main threats with the ball were Waqar (2 for 51) and Naeem (2 for 38).

Despite a lively start from opener Ahmed, who made 23, Caversham never looked like making a sustained assault on the target, as seamers Nick Borland and Richard Bibby ripped through the Caversham order. Bibby took 6 for 37 and Borland 4 for 22, as Caversham were rolled for just 64. The final margin of victory was a collosal 228 runs.
