Match report Cookham Dean 2nds’ impressive run continued on Saturday as they recorded their sixth consecutive victory away to Hayes 2nds. In the process they comfortably picked up the 3 points they required to clinch the Division 6a title. Batting first on a slow surface, Hayes lost two early wickets to Rob Mettler, before Frost (70) and G. Morgan (34) began to take advantage of the helpful conditions and the lack of depth in the Cookham Dean bowling attack. After they were both dismissed, Jason (52) continued the onslaught, supported for long periods by youngsters Jones (12) and R. Morgan (9 not out). Late spells from Mettler and part-time seamer Jake Richardson, who finished with figures of 5 for 37 and 4 for 40 respectively, kept the Dean in the game, but Hayes still managed to post an imposing 242 all out.

Richardson (46) and Dave Brooks (52) set off at a rate of knots in pursuit of the runs, with the predominantly spin bowling of Hayes failing to provide any real control. That began to change as Jason (3 for 65) found his rhythm, and with most of the middle order failing to fire, the Dean found themselves in difficulties at 140 for 5. However, a composed 53 from Shaun Glover took his side beyond 200, and after he was dismissed it was left to Mettler (24 not out) and Cutting to see Cookham over the finish line. Though Cutting fell for 20 just before the end, the Dean eventually won by 2 wickets with around 5 overs to spare.
