Cookham Dean Cricket Club team
1st XI
Captain :
Pres Patel
Pres has captained the first team since 2005, transforming the teams fortunes. Having overseen a disappointing first campaign , with the team finishing ninth in the Second Division of the Chiltern League, he remarkably led the team to promotion in 2006.
He is a canny medium pace bowler, and regularly appeared near the top of the Chiltern League bowling averages. Having come to the club as an all-rounder, his batting has taken a disappointing slump and he is now a regular number 11. Suspect in the field.
Pres's description of himself: super fit player. A member of CDCC into his 7th season
Vice Captain :
Ben Millar
Captained the age group sides as a youngster with great success, leading the team to a number of impressive victories. Kept wicket for Berkshire colts and the Cookham Dean first team from the age of 14, but has now been forced to concentrate on opening the batting due to a finger injury. Made his highest first team score of 116* at home to Chenies & Latimer in 2009, as Cookham Dean chased down 260.
Players
Christian Austin
A genuine character, Christian is one of the longest serving members of the first team and is now the club's League Representative. He enjoyed a sensational 2007 season with the ball, leading to him winning the player's player award. Is also a good lower middle order batsman, and averaged around 40 in the promotion-winning 2006 season.
Tom Bibby
Tom is an ex-colts captain and two-time Colt of the Year winner. A versatile batsman and a genuinely good fielder, he is an established first-team player. Enjoyed his best ever season with the bat in 2008. Offers variety to the attack with his leg-spin as a potential partnership breaker. Elected club captain at the 2008 players meeting.
Nick Borland
Left arm paceman who made a return to the 1st team after his surprise call-up for a Berkshire CCC pre-season game. He has impressed many with his increased speed and accuracy this season and has perhaps not picked up the wickets that his bowling has often deserved. No mug with the bat either despite his regular appearances at the tail.
Dave Brooks
Joined the club in 2008 and quickly established himself at the top of the order as a consistent run-scorer for the 1st team. Previously played club cricket in Wales. Occasional wicket-keeper. Was due to take over the captaincy of the Saturday 2nds in 2009 but shocked the club when he was appointed Chief Executive of Sussex CCC in the winter of 2008.
Imran Butt
Joined the club in 2008 from Holyport after previously playing for the colts in 2005. Mainly a quick bowler but has also begun to bowl off-spin that has so far attracted rave reviews. Class batsman and scored 146 for the Sunday 1s against Eversley in 2008. Ended the season as the leading run scorer and leading wicket taker in the club, scoring over 900 runs and taking over 50 wickets.
George Edlin
Joined the club at the beginning of the 2009 season and has made a very good start establishing his place as first team opening batsman. He is an aggressive batsman who scores his runs quickly and he scored 83* on his league debut against Reading 3s.
Sav Gandesha
The Ravi Bopara of the Thames Valley League, Sawan has played in the first team since 2005, and established himself as a top order batsman in 2006. He has scored hundreds against Hurley and Grayshott, and also bowls useful off-spin. Nephew of ex-first team player Bipin Patel, and the son of Raj Gandesha. Struggled with the bat in recent years but his bowling has become increasingly crucial, and he claimed a first TVL five wicket haul against Royal Ascot in 2009.
Clive Lambden
Clive is currently the longest serving member of the first team, and has been a consistent run scorer in recent years, topping the batting averages in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Also keeps wicket, and is known for his ridiculous and often irrelevant comments behind the stumps.
Rory Millar
A batsmen who normally opens the batting but occasionally bats in the middle order. Also bowls some off-spin. He won colt of the year in 2005, when aged 14. In the last couple of seasons, he has played alot in the both the first and second teams. After impressing in the 2s at the beginning of the 2009 season, he has been a regular in the 1s for the second half of the season.
Chris Nunn
Re-joined the club to the delight of many club members, most notably David Stringer, in 2006. A canny medium pacer and a reputation as a hard-hitting batsman. Turns out for Odney on a Sunday,
Amit Patel
First joined the club in 2004 along with Pres Patel but struggled with injury and did not produce his best form. After his puch up with Harrow St Marys he returned to the club in 2008 a much improved player and claimed five wickets in the Village Cup clash against West End Esher. Also is an aggressive lower order bat and often enjoys the controversial side of the game.
Jake Richardson
Classy top order batsman who started the 2008 season in fine style with Cookham Dean's first ever Thames Valley League century with 100 against Marlow Park 2s. Brought to the club by Andrew Pett in 2005 and became a consistent run scorer in the 2nds before getting call ups to the 1st team in the early part of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Can also bowl at a decent pace but is often erratic.
Tom Rosenthal
Generally quite friendly bowler though with a reputed distaste for the cordial. Tom established himself as a key bowler for the 1st team during the 2008 season, frequently bowling long spells of seam bowling and claiming 13 wickets@20.54.
