Cookham Dean Cricket Club 1st XI squad
1st XI
Captain :
Ben Millar
Captained the age group sides as a youngster with great success, leading the team to a number of impressive victories. Kept wicket for Berkshire colts and the Cookham Dean first team from the age of 14, but has now been forced to concentrate on opening the batting due to a finger injury. Made his highest first team score of 116* at home to Chenies & Latimer in 2009, as Cookham Dean chased down 260.
Vice Captain :
Alexis Austin
More of a social member of the club, ex colt and potentially 3rd team player for 2012 seasion. Always up the club for a pint or can be found in another local watering hole.
Strong grass routes to the club and a number of keys members. Always up for a Jaeger Bomb and lots of Banter!!!
Players
Christian Austin
A genuine character, Christian is one of the longest serving members of the first team and is now the club's League Representative. He enjoyed a sensational 2007 season with the ball, leading to him winning the player's player award. Is also a good lower middle order batsman, and averaged around 40 in the promotion-winning 2006 season.
Richard Bibby
Richard bowls big in-swingers and regularly took the new ball for the first team during the promotion-winning season of 2006. Made four first team appearances in 2008 for the 1st team but spent most of the season as a key bowler for the 2nds, often bowling long spells. Appointed Saturday 2nd team captain for 2009 and had an outstanding first season in the role as his team claimed the league title comfortably while he claimed a remarkable 46 wickets at 13.78.
Tom Bibby
Tom is an ex-colts captain and two-time Colt of the Year winner. A versatile batsman and a genuinely good fielder, he is an established first-team player. Enjoyed his best ever season with the bat in 2008 and extended this prolific form into the 2009 and 2010 seasons striking around 1500 runs in each season. Offers variety to the attack with his leg-spin as a potential partnership breaker and in recent years has also started to keep wicket. Elected club captain at the 2008 players meeting.
Patrick Castleden
A young batsman with a bright future, Patrick has played regular
Sunday cricket since 2007 and made a number of appearances in the Saturday 2nds 6A League title campaign in 2009. Scored his first senior century at the age of 14 for the Sunday 2nds against Holyport. Can also keep wicket and bowl useful off-spin. Goes by the nickname of barbie.
George Edlin
Joined the club at the beginning of the 2009 season and has made a very good start establishing his place as first team opening batsman. He is an aggressive batsman who scores his runs quickly and he scored 83* on his league debut against Reading 3s.
Sav Gandesha
The Ravi Bopara of the Thames Valley League, Sawan has played in the first team since 2005, and established himself as a top order batsman in 2006. He has scored hundreds against Hurley and Grayshott, and also bowls useful off-spin. Nephew of ex-first team player Bipin Patel, and the son of Raj Gandesha. Struggled with the bat in recent years but his bowling has become increasingly crucial, and he claimed a first TVL five wicket haul against Royal Ascot in 2009.
Clive Lambden
Clive is currently the longest serving member of the first team, and has been a consistent run scorer in recent years, topping the batting averages in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Also keeps wicket, and is known for his ridiculous and often irrelevant comments behind the stumps.
Rob Mettler
Quick bowler and handy batsman who bats anywhere in the order, Rob established himself as a regular in the Saturday 2nd XI in 2008 and 2009. He enjoyed an outstanding end to the 2009 season, claiming his first senior five wicket haul at Hayes. Unfortunately missed the entire of the 2010 league season with injury but will be looking to make 1st XI appearances in 2011.
Rory Millar
One of many products of the clubs fine youth set-up, 20-year old Rory is an established top-order 1st team batsmen, scoring 457 league runs in 2010, who has been a regular in the side since the age of 16. Arguably the best fielder in the club which has become an increasingly important feature of his game since the decline of his once useful off-spin in the winter prior to the 2010 season. Career highlights include scoring 135* away at Royal Ascot during his brief spell in the 2nds at the beginning of the sides promotion winning 2009 season and winning colt of the year in 2005.
Chris Nunn
Re-joined the club to the delight of many club members, most notably David Stringer, in 2006. A canny medium pacer and a reputation as a hard-hitting batsman. Turns out for Odney on a Sunday,
Aaron O'Donoghue
A former Stokenchurch player who joined the Dean permanently in 2009 after playing some Sundays in 2008.
He bowls at a good pace and can also provide some useful runs down the lower order, making a fine start to his CDCC league career in the 2nd team in partnership with skipper Richard Bibby. He took a remarkable 8-36 to destroy the Aldershot 2s batting lineup in 2009. This spell of bowling led to 2nd XI stalwart Andy Pett calling him "The Terminator!"
Justin Rodgie
CDCC's overseas player for 2011, Justin has been a great addition to the 1st XI's bowling attack, regularly picking up wickets throughout the season. Hits a long ball with the bat but we've yet to see his full potential with the willow. Plays for North Sydney CC back home in Australia.
Tom Rosenthal
Generally quite friendly bowler though with a reputed distaste for the cordial. Tom established himself as a key bowler for the 1st team during the 2008 season, frequently bowling long spells of seam bowling and claiming 13 wickets@20.54.
Jon Stewart
Tom Wells-Cole
Tom joined the club in 2008 and after doing well on Sundays Tom got a run in the 2nd XI towards the end of the 2009 season. Despite initially struggling for the 2s, two successive centuries for the 3rds in 2010 saw him regain his confidence and he has since established himself at the top of the order for the 2nds and later made his 1st XI debut in 2010. Also scored the first colts century for the u15's against Wargrave.
