Cookham Dean Cricket Club 2nd XI squad
2nd XI
Captain :
Arun Brar
Vice Captain :
Dave Brooks
Joined the club in 2008 and quickly established himself at the top of the order as a consistent run-scorer for the 1st team. Previously played club cricket in Wales. Having retired from 1st XI cricket (before he got dropped !) he was due to take over the captaincy of the Saturday 2nds in 2009 but shocked the club when he was appointed Chief Executive of Sussex CCC in the winter of 2008. His new role inspired a 1st XI comeback in 2010 though 2011 sees him back in the homely bosom of the 2nd XI to pepper backward point opening the batting and to stand around behind the stumps wearing yellow gloves
Players
Mark Anderson
Mark joined the club in 2008 and turned out regularly for the Sunday 1st team. He bowls canny off-breaks and is a hard-hitting lower-order batsman. Made 2nd XI appearances in 2009 and 2010 and also played once for the 1sts in 2010. His best bowling spell so far for the club came in a Sunday game against White Waltham in 2010 where he took 5-55 from 15 overs.
Christian Austin
A genuine character, Christian is one of the longest serving members of the first team and is now the club's League Representative. He enjoyed a sensational 2007 season with the ball, leading to him winning the player's player award. Is also a good lower middle order batsman, and averaged around 40 in the promotion-winning 2006 season.
Richard Bibby
Richard bowls big in-swingers and regularly took the new ball for the first team during the promotion-winning season of 2006. Made four first team appearances in 2008 for the 1st team but spent most of the season as a key bowler for the 2nds, often bowling long spells. Appointed Saturday 2nd team captain for 2009 and had an outstanding first season in the role as his team claimed the league title comfortably while he claimed a remarkable 46 wickets at 13.78.
Mike Cutting
An outstanding clubman, Mike has fulfilled playing roles in all three league teams in recent years and captained the Sunday 1st XI from 2007-2009. His batting particuarly has improved in recent years, with a top score of 69 for the 3s in 2010. Also bowls medium pace and is the current Club Vice-Captain.
Simon D'Ardenne
Simon joined the club at the beginning of the 2005 season, and was a 1's specialist number 8 for a number of years. These days he turns out near the top of the order for the 2's. Definitely one of the top five best looking people at the club and "alpha male" in the absence of A. Murdoch.
Allegedly picked for the 2's as a batsman these days although rumours abound that he is only included to collect match fees for the skipper and wind-up Dave Brooks. Bowls occasional left-arm spin or medium pace and has the distinction of being the only club member in recent memory to secure 5-wicket hauls with both!
Greg Davis
I'm a class act hitting centuries in the Home Counties, spanking around part time first team bowlers and taking 8 wicket hauls weekly. Aged 15.
Oliver Freeman
Another young all-rounder who is firmly established in the 2nd XI after spending much of the 2007 season away. Currently opening the batting for the 2nds and consistently giving his side decent starts, his cover drive is widely regarded to be one of the best in the club. Has 1st XI experience from the early part of the 2006 promotion season.
Guy Glover
Brother of former 2nd XI captain Shaun, Guy only made two appearances in 2008 but did score a half-century against Boyne Hill. He played more games in 2009 and 2010 in the 2nds, making a quick 50 away at Reading in 2010. A regular in the 1st team between 2005 and 2007 and one of the best fielders in the club.
Shaun Glover
Shaun captained the Saturday 2nds during the 2007 and 2008 seasons guiding them to comfortable top-half finishes in both seasons whilst also remaining the sides most consistant run-scorer.
Bertie Kennedy
Bertie is a highly talented individual who is well known for his cavalier cameos later on in the innings. Also a useful medium pace bowler. He also lead the U15 to Julian Cup victory in 2009.
Mike Maroudas

Jayson McAlpine
Will McCreery
Will joined the club in 2010 and impressed in the 3rd XI with his batting and canny off-spin bowling. Made his 1st XI debut in the final league game of the season at home to Amersham.
Rob Mettler
Quick bowler and handy batsman who bats anywhere in the order, Rob established himself as a regular in the Saturday 2nd XI in 2008 and 2009. He enjoyed an outstanding end to the 2009 season, claiming his first senior five wicket haul at Hayes. Unfortunately missed the entire of the 2010 league season with injury but will be looking to make 1st XI appearances in 2011.
Andrew Murdoch
The Sunday sensation of 2007, Andy smashed his way to the top of the Sunday 2s batting averages after a number of quickfire 50s. The most memorable of these innings being an 80 not out against Holyport to guide his side to victory. Can also bowl useful medium pace and is a fine fielder. Made his Saturday 2nds debut against Marlow Park in 2008, scoring 30 not out. Scored a crucial unbeaten half century for the 2nds to guide them to victory over Kew that ultimately saw them avoid relegation.
Aaron O'Donoghue
A former Stokenchurch player who joined the Dean permanently in 2009 after playing some Sundays in 2008.
He bowls at a good pace and can also provide some useful runs down the lower order, making a fine start to his CDCC league career in the 2nd team in partnership with skipper Richard Bibby. He took a remarkable 8-36 to destroy the Aldershot 2s batting lineup in 2009. This spell of bowling led to 2nd XI stalwart Andy Pett calling him "The Terminator!"
Andrew Pett
A long time CDCC player and the senior figure of the Saturday 2nd XI currently. Andy captained the side from 2004 to 2006, the highlight being promotion in 2004. A wily operator with the ball, Andy often proves very difficult for the batsmen to get away and often returns miserly figures. A genuine all-rounder and regularly bats in the top six. Mr Pett's own description of himself: "Senior pro of the club. senior spinner and allrounder and second only to Jake as worst fielder."
Isaac Richardson
Isaac is a medium pace seam bowler who is younger brother of Jake Richardson. Came to the club in 2007 and has made regular appearances for both the Saturday 2's and 3's along with both Sunday teams since. A regular number 11 with the bat, although he thrives on any chances to be promoted up the order. Known for his sometimes humorous but often annoying and irrelevant 'banter' in the field.
Jake Richardson
Classy top order batsman who started the 2008 season in fine style with Cookham Dean's first ever Thames Valley League century with 100 against Marlow Park 2s. Brought to the club by Andrew Pett in 2005 and became a consistent run scorer in the 2nds before getting call ups to the 1st team in the early part of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Has moved in between the 1st and 2nd XIs since but has been appointed 2nd XI Captain for 2011. Can also bowl at a decent pace but is often erratic.
Joel Richardson
Middle brother of the Richardsons, Joel is a top order batsman who first played for the club on Sundays in 2007, scoring a half-century against Holyport. Also bowls leg-spin and is hopefully set to play league cricket for the Dean for the first time in 2011.
James Taylor
Medium pace stalwart bowler has had a successful first two seasons at CDCC in the 2nd XI and as many other games as he can manage. Especially loves Maidenhead and Bray where he snared a total of 12 wickets in two matches..........apparently he is not invited to their end of season party.
Known as "the cackle" due to his belly laugh and has picked up where he left off in 2012 by taking two hat-tricks in two days and completed passed 100 wickets for the club in only two seasons (a feat not seen since the Mickey Nunn era). Is now the proud Captain of the 1st XI Sunday team and intends to bat and bowl when he wants!
Hit his first 50 to slam the batting critics against the lethal bowling attack of marlow 3rd XI.

Tom Wells-Cole
Tom joined the club in 2008 and after doing well on Sundays Tom got a run in the 2nd XI towards the end of the 2009 season. Despite initially struggling for the 2s, two successive centuries for the 3rds in 2010 saw him regain his confidence and he has since established himself at the top of the order for the 2nds and later made his 1st XI debut in 2010. Also scored the first colts century for the u15's against Wargrave.
