Cookham Dean Cricket Club team
2nd XI
Captain :
Richard Bibby
Richard bowls big in-swingers and regularly took the new ball for the first team during the promotion-winning season of 2006. Made four first team appearances in 2008 for the 1st team but spent most of the season as a key bowler for the 2nds, often bowling long spells. Appointed Saturday 2nd team captain for 2009.
Vice Captain :
Mark Fish
Joined the club in 2006 and has rapidly established himself as a popular figure amongst all generations at the club. After a disappointing 2008 season, 2009 has seen Mark establish himself at the top of the order for the 2nds with great success, making 74* against Harefield at the start of the season.
Players
Arun Brar
Useful all-rounder and colt of the year in 2003, Arun's batting in particular has improved in recent seasons and he is now an established member of the 2nd team. Although often criticised as an unattractive batsman to watch, he has found his own method and is now a reliable run scorer. After a spell in the wilderness from the 2nds, Arun responded in fine form with an unbeaten century against Caversham and Redingensians in 2009.
Dave Brooks
Joined the club in 2008 and quickly established himself at the top of the order as a consistent run-scorer for the 1st team. Previously played club cricket in Wales. Occasional wicket-keeper. Was due to take over the captaincy of the Saturday 2nds in 2009 but shocked the club when he was appointed Chief Executive of Sussex CCC in the winter of 2008.
Patrick Castleden
A young batsman with a bright future. Patrick played regularly on Sundays last season and will be looking to become part of the Saturday sides within the next couple of seasons. Struck his first senior century at the age of 14 for the Sunday 2nds at Holyport in June 2009.
Mike Cutting
A rapidly improving player, his batting especially has come on in the last couple of years, and he scored his maiden league fifty for the second team in 2008 against Hayes 2s. Useful medium pacer and current Sunday 1s captain and a good clubman.
Simon D'Ardenne
Simon joined the club as a SLA bowler in 2005. After some initial success with the ball, he fulfilled his destiny and became the 1st team specialist number 8, a position he held until the end of the 2007 season. After missing most of the 2008 season while at Sandhurst, he returned to the fold and is now consistently scoring runs at the top of the order for the 2nd team. Ireland legend Andrew White described him thus..."the most elegant batsman of his generation".
Paul Farnborough
Colt of the year in 2000, Paul returned to the club for the start of the 2007 season after a stint at Boyne Hill. Enjoyed a brilliant 2004 season with the bat in a struggling side, but has struggled to recreate that form since his return. Currently playing in the second team as a top order batsman and change bowler.
Paul's own views: Lost it.
Oliver Freeman
Another young all-rounder who is firmly established in the 2nd XI after spending much of the 2007 season away. Currently opening the batting for the 2nds and consistently giving his side decent starts, his cover drive is widely regarded to be one of the best in the club. Has 1st XI experience from the early part of the 2006 promotion season.
Guy Glover
Brother of former captain Shaun, Guy only made two appearances in 2008 but did score a half-century against Boyne Hill. He'll be looking to make more regular appearances in 2009. A regular in the 1st team between 2005 and 2007 and one of the best fielders in the club.
Shaun Glover
Shaun captained the Saturday 2nds during the 2007 and 2008 seasons guiding them to comfortable top-half finishes in both seasons whilst also remaining the sides most consistant run-scorer.
Mike Maroudas
Mike is an unorthodox South African Kolpak, who first arrived on the scene in 2003. He started his colts career as a pinch-hitting opener. . He made his only first-team appearance in 2008. After missing most of the 2008 season, Mike played regularly again in 2009, especially on Sundays. He finished leading wicket taker and run scorer for the Sunday 2nds, striking two brutal centuries against Eversley Academy and John Lewis.
Rob Mettler
Highly thought of youngster who has begun to establish himself in the Saturday 2nd XI. Bowls at a decent pace and also handy with the bat as shown by half centuries against Littlewick Green, Holyport and Chalfont St Peter during the 2007 and 2008 seasons respectively.
Rory Millar
A batsmen who normally opens the batting but occasionally bats in the middle order. Also bowls some off-spin. He won colt of the year in 2005, when aged 14. In the last couple of seasons, he has played alot in the both the first and second teams. After impressing in the 2s at the beginning of the 2009 season, he has been a regular in the 1s for the second half of the season.
Aaron O'Donoghue
A former Stokenchurch player who joined the Dean permanently in 2009 after playing some Sundays in 2008.
He bowls at a good pace and can also provide some useful runs down the lower order, making a fine start to his CDCC league career in the 2nd team in partnership with skipper Richard Bibby. He took a remarkable 8-36 to destroy the Aldershot 2s batting lineup in 2009. This spell of bowling led to 2nd XI stalwart Andy Pett calling him "The Terminator!"
Andrew Pett
A long time CDCC player and the senior figure of the Saturday 2nd XI currently. Andy captained the side from 2004 to 2006, the highlight being promotion in 2004. A wily operator with the ball, Andy often proves very difficult for the batsmen to get away and often returns miserly figures. A genuine all-rounder and regularly bats in the top six. Mr Pett's own description of himself: "Senior pro of the club. senior spinner and allrounder and second only to Jake as worst fielder."
Isaac Richardson
Younger brother of Jake Richardson, Isaac made his Cookham Dean debut at the tail of the 2007 season and impressed many with his accurate seam bowling. Completed a transfer from Reading CC in 2008, which allowed him to make his 2nds debut later in the season. 2009 has seen him move between the 2nd and 3rd XIs throughout the season.
Tom Wells-Cole
Tom joined the club in 2008 after finding opportunities at Maidenhead and Bray limited. He made his debut for the Saturday 2nds during an availability crisis and did well proving himself to be a fine fielder. He also played regularly on Sundays and struck a fine 76 not out againsr Chalfont St Peter. He also scored a century for the Under 15s against Wargrave, this is believed to be the only colts century in Cookham history. This innings ultimately led to him winning Colt of the Year for 2008.
