Cookham Dean Cricket Club team
Friendly 2nd XI
Captain :
Chris Kellaway
Opening batsmen who wants to be Michael Vaughan (but is more like Mr.Boycott...), part time wicket keeper and retired swing bowler following "yip" attack at West Wycombe in 2007. Played for the Dean since 1995 and stalwart of Sunday 2nd XI. Lucky enough to Captain the Sunday 2nd XI this season.
Vice Captain :
Jonathan Gay
Hard-hitting lower/middle order batsman and leg-break bowler and current 3rd team captain. Long time stalwart of the Sunday 2nds and current vice captain. Made seven appearances for the First XI in 2005 and 2006, striking 35 on his Saturday debut against Little Kingshill.
Highest Score: 79* vs Bledlow in 2006
Best Bowling: 5-61 vs Eversley in 2005
Players
George Allard
Club captain in 2007 and 2008 and former captain of the Sunday 2nds, George has found his appearances limited in the last couple of seasons. Before this he was a regular run scorer at the top of the order and occasionally would turn his arm over with his canny spin bowling. Also umpires for the Saturday 1sts occasionally.
Marcus Allard
After a couple of years away from the game, Marky returned to cricket in 2009 in sensational style. In his second game back, he made a fine 50 against British Airways. This form continued for the rest of the season which included two centuries for the Sunday 2nds.
Jamie Andrews
Jamie opens the bowling for the under 17s with his in-swinging medium pace. Throughout the years, he has had success with the ball which has earnt him the chance to play in the sunday sides.
Murali Arangasamy
Murali began playing regularly for the club in 2009 and his swing bowling proved successful for the 3rd XI and Sunday 2nds.
Tony Austin
The current club chairman, Tony has been involved with Cookham Dean since moving from Marlow Park around twenty years ago. A regular fixture in the first team until the early 2000s, Tony now makes the odd appearance in Sunday fixtures. Is also the Chairman of the Julian Cup and the father of First XI stalwart Christian Austin.
Arun Brar
Useful all-rounder and colt of the year in 2003, Arun's batting in particular has improved in recent seasons and he is now an established member of the 2nd team. Although often criticised as an unattractive batsman to watch, he has found his own method and is now a reliable run scorer. After a spell in the wilderness from the 2nds, Arun responded in fine form with an unbeaten century against Caversham and Redingensians in 2009.
Tony Cairns
A regular fixture behind the stumps for the Sunday 2nds in recent years, TC's often eccentric playing style makes him a popular member of the squad. Often heard making strange sound effects whilst keeping wicket, Tony tends to bat low down the order but has on occasion made decent contributions. Examples of this include 28 against Iver Heath in 2007 and standing firm in a stand of over 60 with Rory Millar against Greys Green in 2008.
Patrick Castleden
A young batsman with a bright future, Patrick has played regular
Sunday cricket since 2007 and made a number of appearances in the Saturday 2nds 6A League title campaign in 2009. Scored his first senior century at the age of 14 for the Sunday 2nds against Holyport. Can also keep wicket and bowl useful off-spin.
Robin Churchill
Leg spinner who likes to give it a bit of air, upset at the height of the new nets, but learning to cope with a slightly flatter delivery. Can bat a bit too apparently although current stats don't back this up.
Sim Dhesi
Sim first joined the club in 2005, making a handful of Saturday 1st team appearances. Now plays regularly on Sundays in both the 1st and 2nd team Sim tends to bat in the middle order and can also offer some medium pace bowling.
Roger Evans
Roger has been a reliable performer for the club with both bat and ball since making his first appearance in 2004. Began playing league cricket again in 2010 for the 3rd XI, finding some outstanding form and striking his first century against Hayes 4ths.
Lester Fitzpatrick
Lester joined the club in 2009 and his spin bowling proved a useful addition to the Sunday 2nds, claiming his best figures of 3-32 against Binfield. Can also bat as shown by a quick-fire innings of 31 against Holyport.
John Gay
A regular Sunday cricketer since first appearing for the club in 2002 and has played for the 3rds in 2009. A strong hitter to the leg side and obvious lbw candidate, he has had to give up his slow left arm bowling. Club Secretary from 2003-2007 and father of Jonathan Gay.
Greg Holmes
Lanky Aussie guy, Greg joined the club in 2007 and regularly turned out for the Sunday sides throughout the season. He bowls loopy off-spin and bats anywhere in the order, tending to score his runs quickly.
Michael James
Mike Knowles-Leak
Mike Maroudas
Mike is an unorthodox South African Kolpak, who first arrived on the scene in 2003. He started his colts career as a pinch-hitting opener. . He made his only first-team appearance in 2008. After missing most of the 2008 season, Mike played regularly again in 2009, especially on Sundays. He finished leading wicket taker and run scorer for the Sunday 2nds, striking two brutal centuries against Eversley Academy and John Lewis.
Ian Mettler
Father of Rob Mettler, Ian has made frequent appearances on Sundays in recent years. A reliable right handed batsman and left arm swing bowler, Ian struck 42 in a game against Tuvrville Park early on in the 2008 season.
Rob Mettler
Highly thought of youngster who has begun to establish himself in the Saturday 2nd XI. Bowls at a decent pace and also handy with the bat as shown by half centuries against Littlewick Green, Holyport and Chalfont St Peter during the 2007 and 2008 seasons respectively.
Aaron O'Donoghue
A former Stokenchurch player who joined the Dean permanently in 2009 after playing some Sundays in 2008.
He bowls at a good pace and can also provide some useful runs down the lower order, making a fine start to his CDCC league career in the 2nd team in partnership with skipper Richard Bibby. He took a remarkable 8-36 to destroy the Aldershot 2s batting lineup in 2009. This spell of bowling led to 2nd XI stalwart Andy Pett calling him "The Terminator!"
Richard Poustie
New to club, hoping to scrape into one of the friendly sides as a batsman who doesn't bowl.
Isaac Richardson
Isaac is a medium seam bowler who is younger brother of Jake Richardson. Came to the club in 2007 and has made regular appearances for both the Saturday 2's and 3's along with both Sunday teams since. A regular number 11 with the bat, although he thrives on any chances to be promoted up the order. Known for his sometimes humorous but often annoying and irrelevant 'banter' in the field.
Jake Richardson
Classy top order batsman who started the 2008 season in fine style with Cookham Dean's first ever Thames Valley League century with 100 against Marlow Park 2s. Brought to the club by Andrew Pett in 2005 and became a consistent run scorer in the 2nds before getting call ups to the 1st team in the early part of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Can also bowl at a decent pace but is often erratic.
Jim Rosenthal
JR's involvement with the club has been primarily as parent to controversial and outspoken 1st XI bowler Tom, yet he has made a few appearances in Sunday matches. He also captained a team of minor celebrities to Colonel Garrett Cup glory in 2004.
Paul Taylor
Known as "The Power" Paul turns out for the Sunday 2nds on a regular basis and tends to take the new ball with his lively pace bowling. Can also strike a few lusty blows low down the order. Memorable sixes have been struck at Freith and Penn Street in recent years.
Tom Wells-Cole
Tom joined the club in 2008 after finding opportunities at Maidenhead and Bray limited. He made his debut for the Saturday 2nds during an availability crisis and did well proving himself to be a fine fielder. He also played regularly on Sundays and struck a fine 76 not out againsr Chalfont St Peter. He also scored a century for the Under 15s against Wargrave, this is believed to be the only colts century in Cookham history. This innings ultimately led to him winning Colt of the Year for 2008.
