Midweek Twenty20 XI
Captain :
Rory Millar
Regular in the first team for the last few years and despite losing his place at the beginning of 2009, a very successful spell in the second team that included a century at Royal Ascot, has helped him re-establish his place as a first team top order batsmen. Has taken on the captaincy of the Sunday first team for the 2010 season.
Players
Marcus Allard
After a couple of years away from the game, Marky returned to cricket in 2009 in sensational style. In his second game back, he made a fine 50 against British Airways. This form continued for the rest of the season which included two centuries for the Sunday 2nds.
Mark Anderson
Mark joined the club in 2008 and turned out regularly for the Sunday 1st team. He bowls canny off-breaks and is a hard-hitting lower-order batsman. Highlights from last season include a spell of 4-26 against Old Berkeley.
Christian Austin
A genuine character, Christian is one of the longest serving members of the first team and is now the club's League Representative. He enjoyed a sensational 2007 season with the ball, leading to him winning the player's player award. Is also a good lower middle order batsman, and averaged around 40 in the promotion-winning 2006 season.
Tom Bibby
Tom is an ex-colts captain and two-time Colt of the Year winner. A versatile batsman and a genuinely good fielder, he is an established first-team player. Enjoyed his best ever season with the bat in 2008. Offers variety to the attack with his leg-spin as a potential partnership breaker. Elected club captain at the 2008 players meeting.
Arun Brar
Useful all-rounder and colt of the year in 2003, Arun's batting in particular has improved in recent seasons and he is now an established member of the 2nd team. Although often criticised as an unattractive batsman to watch, he has found his own method and is now a reliable run scorer. After a spell in the wilderness from the 2nds, Arun responded in fine form with an unbeaten century against Caversham and Redingensians in 2009.
Patrick Castleden
A young batsman with a bright future, Patrick has played regular
Sunday cricket since 2007 and made a number of appearances in the Saturday 2nds 6A League title campaign in 2009. Scored his first senior century at the age of 14 for the Sunday 2nds against Holyport. Can also keep wicket and bowl useful off-spin.
Oli Coates
Oli made his first appearance for the club at the end of 2009 for the 3rd XI, making a well-made 33 against Wendover. 2010 has seen him move between the 2nd and 3rd XIs, he struck 58 against Harefield 4ths for the 3s.
Mike Cutting
A rapidly improving player, his batting especially has come on in the last couple of years, and he scored his maiden league fifty for the second team in 2008 against Hayes 2s. Useful medium pacer and current Sunday 1s captain and a good clubman.
Mark Fish
Joined the club in 2006 and has rapidly established himself as a popular figure amongst all generations at the club. After a disappointing 2008 season, 2009 has seen Mark establish himself at the top of the order for the 2nds with great success, making 74* against Harefield at the start of the season.
Oliver Freeman
Another young all-rounder who is firmly established in the 2nd XI after spending much of the 2007 season away. Currently opening the batting for the 2nds and consistently giving his side decent starts, his cover drive is widely regarded to be one of the best in the club. Has 1st XI experience from the early part of the 2006 promotion season.
Sav Gandesha
The Ravi Bopara of the Thames Valley League, Sawan has played in the first team since 2005, and established himself as a top order batsman in 2006. He has scored hundreds against Hurley and Grayshott, and also bowls useful off-spin. Nephew of ex-first team player Bipin Patel, and the son of Raj Gandesha. Struggled with the bat in recent years but his bowling has become increasingly crucial, and he claimed a first TVL five wicket haul against Royal Ascot in 2009.
Jonathan Gay
Hard-hitting lower/middle order batsman and leg-break bowler and current 3rd team captain. Long time stalwart of the Sunday 2nds and current vice captain. Made seven appearances for the First XI in 2005 and 2006, striking 35 on his Saturday debut against Little Kingshill.
Highest Score: 79* vs Bledlow in 2006
Best Bowling: 5-61 vs Eversley in 2005
Guy Glover
Brother of former captain Shaun, Guy only made two appearances in 2008 but did score a half-century against Boyne Hill. He'll be looking to make more regular appearances in 2009. A regular in the 1st team between 2005 and 2007 and one of the best fielders in the club.
Tim Hipgrave
A regular Sunday 1st team player, Tim returned to the club in 2007 but has so far found opportunities in the Saturday sides limited. Whenever he is called up there is no doubting his commitment and he often puts in fine fielding performances. After talk of a high score being around the corner, Tim responded in fine style by smashing 78 not out against Wooburn Narks.
Greg Holmes
Lanky Aussie guy, Greg joined the club in 2007 and regularly turned out for the Sunday sides throughout the season. He bowls loopy off-spin and bats anywhere in the order, tending to score his runs quickly.
Mark Jones
An all round player, known for not liking bowlers who bowl straight but will smash anything outside off to the boundary.
Applies his 6ft7’ frame to delivering medium pace balls which from that height can easily end up around the batsmen’s head.
Likes curry and beer.
Bertie Kennedy
Bertie is another up and coming colt who has performed well in his senior outings for the club so far.
Clive Lambden
Clive is currently the longest serving member of the first team, and has been a consistent run scorer in recent years, topping the batting averages in 2006, 2007 and 2008. Also keeps wicket, and is known for his ridiculous and often irrelevant comments behind the stumps.
Mike Maroudas
Mike is an unorthodox South African Kolpak, who first arrived on the scene in 2003. He started his colts career as a pinch-hitting opener. . He made his only first-team appearance in 2008. After missing most of the 2008 season, Mike played regularly again in 2009, especially on Sundays. He finished leading wicket taker and run scorer for the Sunday 2nds, striking two brutal centuries against Eversley Academy and John Lewis.
Rob Mettler
Highly thought of youngster who has begun to establish himself in the Saturday 2nd XI. Bowls at a decent pace and also handy with the bat as shown by half centuries against Littlewick Green, Holyport and Chalfont St Peter during the 2007 and 2008 seasons respectively.
Ben Millar
Captained the age group sides as a youngster with great success, leading the team to a number of impressive victories. Kept wicket for Berkshire colts and the Cookham Dean first team from the age of 14, but has now been forced to concentrate on opening the batting due to a finger injury. Made his highest first team score of 116* at home to Chenies & Latimer in 2009, as Cookham Dean chased down 260.
Seth Munn
Popular figure at the club since taking up the game relatively late. Firmly established in the Sunday 1st team, Seth has turned himself into a useful batsman and seam bowler. One game in 2008 saw him claim four wickets. Made one Saturday 1st team appearance in 2007.
Aaron O'Donoghue
A former Stokenchurch player who joined the Dean permanently in 2009 after playing some Sundays in 2008.
He bowls at a good pace and can also provide some useful runs down the lower order, making a fine start to his CDCC league career in the 2nd team in partnership with skipper Richard Bibby. He took a remarkable 8-36 to destroy the Aldershot 2s batting lineup in 2009. This spell of bowling led to 2nd XI stalwart Andy Pett calling him "The Terminator!"
Andrew Partridge
Son of former First team captain David Partridge and grandson of Peter Partridge, Andrew is yet another product of the club's successful colts section. Plays regularly in the Sunday 1st XI where he hits the deck hard with his medium pace, infamously bowls a "heavy ball".
Amit Patel
First joined the club in 2004 along with Pres Patel but struggled with injury and did not produce his best form. After his puch up with Harrow St Marys he returned to the club in 2008 a much improved player and claimed five wickets in the Village Cup clash against West End Esher. Also is an aggressive lower order bat and often enjoys the controversial side of the game.
Pres Patel
Pres has captained the first team since 2005, transforming the teams fortunes. Having overseen a disappointing first campaign , with the team finishing ninth in the Second Division of the Chiltern League, he remarkably led the team to promotion in 2006.
He is a canny medium pace bowler, and regularly appeared near the top of the Chiltern League bowling averages. Having come to the club as an all-rounder, his batting has taken a disappointing slump and he is now a regular number 11. Suspect in the field.
Pres's description of himself: super fit player. A member of CDCC into his 7th season
Isaac Richardson
Isaac is a medium seam bowler who is younger brother of Jake Richardson. Came to the club in 2007 and has made regular appearances for both the Saturday 2's and 3's along with both Sunday teams since. A regular number 11 with the bat, although he thrives on any chances to be promoted up the order. Known for his sometimes humorous but often annoying and irrelevant 'banter' in the field.
Jake Richardson
Classy top order batsman who started the 2008 season in fine style with Cookham Dean's first ever Thames Valley League century with 100 against Marlow Park 2s. Brought to the club by Andrew Pett in 2005 and became a consistent run scorer in the 2nds before getting call ups to the 1st team in the early part of the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Can also bowl at a decent pace but is often erratic.
Tom Wells-Cole
Tom joined the club in 2008 after finding opportunities at Maidenhead and Bray limited. He made his debut for the Saturday 2nds during an availability crisis and did well proving himself to be a fine fielder. He also played regularly on Sundays and struck a fine 76 not out againsr Chalfont St Peter. He also scored a century for the Under 15s against Wargrave, this is believed to be the only colts century in Cookham history. This innings ultimately led to him winning Colt of the Year for 2008.
